Muhyiddin: My statements taken out of context

PUTRAJAYA: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said that his statement about the Chinese votes at the recent by-elections in an interview with a Malay daily were taken out of context.
“My Bahasa is very clear and straightforward. I was just making an assessment about the situation in Bukit Selambau and Bukit Gantang.
“I said it very clearly in my interview. When you twist what I say and put me in a bad light with the Chinese community, that is something serious,” he told reporters after the handover of duties from former education minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein at the ministry Tuesday.
He was asked about statements that he had said the “Chinese were ungrateful” in an interview with Mingguan Malaysia last Sunday.
“I think it is the Chinese paper. I don’t read Chinese but I have people who report to me, who said that (it) had twisted what I said.
“If you don’t understand Bahasa Malaysia, we can send you to school,” he said.
Muhyiddin said he had also spoken to MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat about it.
“Tee Keat said there was nothing wrong with my statement,” he said.
Muhyiddin said the interview had to be read in the whole context.
“You can’t pick up like that as it is in the context of the statement I made... that is the real meaning of what I said.
“I think I am good in Bahasa but some people do not understand my Bahasa unfortunately,” he said.
Muhyiddin said he was comparing the results for the recent Bukit Gantang by-election to the one in 2008, which had deteriorated in terms of support for Barisan Nasional.
“For me that is serious .... although we tried to resolve the problems, it’s as if (seolah-olah) what we have done is not appreciated,” he said.
Muhyiddin said it was a post-mortem on the recent by-election results.
“If the Chinese are not supporting (us) ... I said in my interview we have to understand why that is so.
“I think I am very frank about it as I want to understand why Chinese thinking is like that, why the Malay is not like that. I am not saying that the Chinese are good or bad; we have to analyse (the situation),” he said.
Muhyiddin said the Barisan Nasional had yet to establish whether the lack of non-Malay support in Bukit Gantang was reflective of the overall sentiment in the country.
“This has yet to be seen as we have not made any assessment of the overall situation. This is only in the case of Bukit Gantang and Bukit Selambau,” he added.

tunku : this is the problem with some of our media, they tends to take things out of context.they want to sell so they write whatever sell it high.i have read muhyiddin's interview in utusan and he had never accused the chinese community as ungrateful. he was commenting on bukit gantang's campaign in chinese area not about the whole chinese community in malaysia.hope that the media will be more responsible or if you(the reporters) don't understand the language take night classes to polish it up.muhyiddin is not stupid to make such ridiculous statement in the media.

ANWAR TERSENGIH, ERDOGAN KUASAI PAS

Nama-nama seperti Mustapha Ali, Ahmad Yaacob, Haron Taib, Nasharuddin Mat Isa pastinya sedang kepanasan memandangkan gelombang Anwar Ibrahim sedang melanda PAS dengan begitu hebat.

Abdul Rahim Sabri | Apr 14, 09 3:43pm

"if you(the reporters) don't understand the language take night classes to polish it up.muhyiddin is not stupid to make such ridiculous statement in the media."

Tunku,

I'm an avid reader of your blog for the past 2 years and never once commented here.

But tonight (morning already morning here xcually), I would like to share something.

To address what I'm trying to say would definitely gonna take a center spread but i will try to be brief.

From the quote above, it's liken given the opposition an ammo. Instead of we retaliated back, why don't we address or re-address the 'misunderstanding'. Nobody likes to be scolded in public, even though the scolder intention is noble or justified. End of the day what we created is a chain of hatred and retaliation.

We should take heart from the 'hadiah penyapu' incident.

What we should do is back to the drawing board, and re-address the nation. I strongly with you regarding eliminating the corruption. Currently we are labeled as a corrupted government and need to be change.

Change is good.

Bu instead of changing the government, why don't we as a government change or a better term, RE-BRAND our self that we can govern the country as per rakyat required.

Currently, base my on observation, the MAIN and NUMBER ONE antagonist labeled to us is corruption.

We are addressing it currently with SPRM, but that's not enough. What's SPRM doing right now is liken to 'business to business' (B2B) in financial term. The impact is not felt by rakyat. We need to address the B2C... 'business to customer/consumer'. I do not need to elaborate further as I'm sure u and majority of this blog's followers will understand.

Once the MAIN antagonist addressed, then we move to the next in line. The SECOND and the THIRD and so on and so forth.

We have nothing to lose in addressing the said problem(s) but we, and the whole nation are definitely gonna lost a whole lot more if it's not gonna be addressed!

So it's indirectly a task fell upon us to create awareness in a professional manner to create a +ve environment so that we don't felt into emotional trap that would hinder rakyat further away from us... thus, undoing all the good deeds that has been done.

wassalam.

Tunku,

1. Kudos to the TPM for his views
on the non-malay voters at
Bt.Gantang and Bt. Selambau.

2. TPM is calling a spade a spade
just like what Dr Mahathir
would have said if he is still
the PM.

3. Those who voiced out their
disagreements are actually
feeling the heat from the chili
(siapa makan cili dialah yg
terasa pedas)

4. The govt.should not be too
accomadative towards those who
bit the hands that feed them.

5. We need a leader like TS
Muhyiddin.
