Public Support For Gov't Is Strong, Says Ahmad Zahid

BAGAN DATOH, March 24 (Bernama) -- The Information Ministry said research conducted by its agencies has revealed that support for the government from members of the public in urban and rural areas currently is very strong.
Its deputy minister, Datuk Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the research carried out by officers from the Information Department and the Special Affairs Department (JASA) had been analysed by the strategic information division of the ministry.
"Although there are isolated inadequacies and weaknesses, these do not weaken the people's support for the present government leadership," he told reporters after the annual general meeting of the Parent-Teacher's Association (PTA) of Sekolah Menengah Tun Abdul Razak, Selekoh, near here yesterday.
He said the research also revealed that public confidence in the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, was growing including from the entrepreneurs and businessmen.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also the member of parliament for Bagan Datoh, said the Islam Hadhari or Civilisational Islam concept introduced by Abdullah had also been accepted by the minority group and had not affected the solid support for the government.
However, he said the problem of support for the government cropped up among the middle-class group who felt that their demands had never been satisfied.
"They comprise the antagonistic group who are never happy nor satisfied with the current pace of development," he added.
