Najib clarifies abdullah's remark on AP

PM's remark

BUSAN, March 10 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the Malaysian government no longer issues Import Permits (APs) for new vehicles in line with the cabinet decision last year.
He said recent reports that the Special Cabinet Committee on Approved Permits, which he chairs, had issued 3,000 new APs for imported cars were not true.
The APs were actually issued for cars which had already been brought into the country and were stranded at the country's ports before the cabinet decision was made, he explained.
"We issued the APs because the cars were already there at the ports. This is a residual problem... during transition period, that's all.
"So the entire committee agreed on this," he told Malaysian reporters here Saturday.
The Deputy Prime Minister is here for a six-day official visit to South Korea at the invitation of President Roh Moo-hyun. He arrived here on Thursday after concluding a four-day visit to Japan.
Najib said the government abided by the decision made earlier that no new APs would be issued to any one. He said this when commenting on a media report that the government had resumed the issuance of APs after stopping the practice almost a year ago.

tunku : earlier i had asked why pak lah just said that 3000ap's issued to Wald with special reason only, without clarifying it.as a pm he should be able to give the reasons but he aint have the brain. his deputy had to clarify it from Busan.Thank god the government had stop issuing new ap's ( i hope so ) and thanks to Tun Mahathir for it too.
