MUKHRIZ CALLS FOR INTEGRATED EFFORTS TO TRACE NEW VOTERS

19th March, 2007
KOTA KINABALU: An integrated effort should be launched nationwide to trace new voters, Umno Youth exco member Datuk Mukhriz Tun Dr Mahathir said.
He said it was meaningless for a party to have many members if they could not vote, adding that efforts should be made to trace and register them as voters.
“As the biggest organisation and with the highest membership, Umno Youth should focus on the agenda towards preparing the youth leadership, especially the youngsters (Putera Umno),” he told reporters after a meeting with the Sabah Umno Youth here Saturday night.
He said other component parties in the Barisan Nasional should also embark on efforts to get as many as possible among those eligible for registration as voters.
“For those who have registered, they should check their names on the electoral rolls.
“Come election day, we do not want to hear stories of their names not being on the electoral rolls,” he added.
Meanwhile, Sabah Umno Youth Chief Datuk Japlin Akim said the state Umno Youth would intensify its campaign to get those above 21 years of age to register as voters.

tunku : for those who have not register, the dateline for registering as a voter in the next general election is 31 March 2007.

Voters registration should be automated based on the address in the NRIC. This would minimise any need for registration which allows for abuse.

Unless the NRIC is also subjected to abuse !!!
