Speaking at the soft launching of the pedestrian bridge in Kampung
Boyan here on Tuesday, he said he based his assessment on the fact that
Sarawakians were aware of the capabilities of the BN in leading the
country to greater heights of development.
“This is unlike some
people who only know how to criticise and complain,” he said, in an
apparent swipe at PKR president Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
“She
said she felt pity for Sarawakians for having a lousy highway. Why
didn’t she feel pity when her husband was the deputy prime minister?”
Abang
Johari, who is also Minister of Housing and Minister of Tourism, urged
voters not to believe whatever Pakatan Rakyat was peddling.
“They just want to split the unity of the people here. If we are disunited, we will destroy our own future.”
On another matter, Abang Johari told reporters that the state government aimed to redevelop all 12 villages in Seberang Hilir.
Without divulging details, he said it would be implemented in phases in the current and 11th Malaysian Plan.
“The
redevelopment project will be based on the Malay culture and
architecture of the villages. Once it is completed, it will definitely
help to turn the Malay villages in Seberang Hilir to be a great tourist
attraction.”
On the pedestrian bridge, he said the 400-metre long
bridge linked Kampung Boyan to Fort Margherita, a 134-year-old
historical building. He felt that the new attraction would help to
create new opportunities for the local community.
Among those
present were BN’s candidate for Santubong Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku
Jaafar, Pantai Damai assemblyman Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi and Kuching
North City Commission (DBKU) Datuk Bandar Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang
