Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak Monday
recorded his appreciation to the voters and all Malaysians for returning
the Barisan Nasional to power at the national level.
The Prime Minister said the support given had enabled the BN government to lead the nation for the next five years.
"I also thank the BN machinery for the hard work they had put in to
ensure that the BN forms the federal government," he said at a media
conference at the Putra World Trade Centre, here shortly after the BN
obtained a simple majority when it won 112 seats in the 13th general
election (GE13).
The Prime Minister hoped that everyone could accept the decision which
reflected that democracy was practised in a transparent manner.
Najib, who is also the BN chairman, said that following the decision and
in the national interest, he hoped the opposition pact could accept the
decision with an open heart and would allow the democratic process to
proceed smoothly after the BN had formed the federal government.
Najib said a specific mechanism to monitor implementation of the
promises would be set up to prove the coalition's commitment to honour
its promises to the people.
"The people realise that when we make promises, we will deliver them," he said.
On the 13th General Election results, Najib, who is also BN chairman, said the voters' overall polarisation trend was worrying.
"If this trend is not addressed effectively, it can create tension and conflicts in the country," he said.
Also present were his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Deputy Prime
Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, and his wife, Puan Sri Noorainee
Abdul Rahman, and BN secretary-general, Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku
Mansor.
