KUALA LUMPUR: The MCA Youth has accused PAS of being “narrow minded and intolerant” for staging a protest against American Idol star Adam Lambert, who performed at a sold-out concert here on Thursday night.
“The demonstration shows the kind of extremism practised by the party,” said MCA Youth chief Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong.
He also expressed regret that PKR and DAP, allies of PAS in the Pakatan Rakyat coalition, had chosen to remain silent on the matter.
A large group of Muslim youths, including PAS Youth members and students representing the All-Malaysian Islamic Students Coalition (Gamis), protested against Lambert, a self-confessed homosexual, outside the Stadium Putra in Bukit Jalil, while the singer gave a highly-charged performance before 10,000 screaming fans inside the stadium.
The group was led by PAS Youth chief Nasrudin Hassan and an exco member, Mohd Firdaus Jaafar, who is also the Jerai MP.
PAS had objected to the concert, claiming that Lambert’s show advocated homosexuality.
The group gathered at the entrance after the maghrib prayers and passed anti-Lambert flyers to those queuing to buy tickets.
Karyawan president Datuk Freddie Fernandez, who also expressed disappointment about the PAS-led protest, said it reflected poorly on the party.
“They should exercise greater moderation,” he said, adding that PAS should understand there were Malaysians who appreciated Lambert’s talents.
Kedah Gerakan chief Tan Keng Liang regretted the action by PAS, saying it was humiliating to the country.
“This is yet another selfish act by PAS.
“They fail to understand that homosexuality is the inherent nature of certain people and clearly not a form of culture,” he added.
PAS had protested against other concerts in the past too.

tunku : i support pas for staging a protest against american idol star adam lambert who is a homosexual but against their double standard on this matter. they should protest of anwar who is a sodomizer as their pakatan leader. the only difference between anwar and lambert is lambert is a homosexual and anwar is a bisexual. both are haram in Islam. they should understand this.
