Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri
Muhyiddin Yassin said the choice of a government cannot be based on how
old the ruling party is.
Instead, he said, it should be based on the wisdom and capability of the party concerned to administer the country.
He said leaders in Barisan Nasional (BN), which the Pakatan Rakyat said
was old and should be replaced, always takes steps to rejuvenate the
coalition.
This was reflected in the 13th general election with young leaders
making up 50 per cent of BN candidates vying for state seats, and 30 per
cent for parliamentary seats, he said.
"Pakatan Rakyat is calling on the people to make a change because they
regard BN as old, but the fact is, BN leaders are far younger than their
leaders," he said at a 1Malaysia People's gathering at Sekolah Menengah
Kebangsaan (SMK) Ulu Tebrau in Ulu Tiram near here Tuesday.
Also present were incumbent Tebrau Member of Parliament Teng Boon Soon;
incumbent Puteri Wangsa assemblyman Datuk Abdul Halim Suleiman, BN
candidate for the Tebrau parliamentary seat Khoo Soong Seang, the BN
candidate for Tiram state seat Datuk Maulizan Bujang and the BN
candidate for the Puteri Wangsa state seat, M. Soorianarayanan.
At the function, Muhyiddin also opened two additional blocks and a hall, costing RM6.2 million, for the school.
The deputy prime minister advised voters not to be hoodwinked by the
Pakatan Rakyat's political gimmicks, but to preserve what they had and
not to sacrifice their future by supporting the opposition pact.
