The Public Accounts Committee’s (PAC) report on 1Malaysia Development Berhad proves that RM42bil did not go missing as alleged by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
In a statement on Thursday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak added that the report proved that Dr Mahathir’s claims were false.
“Equally, it is now clear that Tun Mahathir’s allegations against 1MDB have been false. He was motivated by personal interest, not the national interest, and a desire to unseat the Government,” Najib said.
On the PAC’s recommendation, the Prime Minister said the Government would study and act on the committee’s advice.
In thanking the National Audit Department and PAC, Najib acknowledged that the report identified weaknesses in 1MDB’s capital structure and management.
“We must ensure that lessons are learned, and action will be taken if any evidence of wrongdoing is found,” he said, adding that the Government would continue to focus on its economic plan and to strengthen the economy.
