KUALA LUMPUR: Delegates to MIC’s general assembly took to task former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for his criticism of MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu in the run up to the party polls.One delegate said that the MIC leaders were capable of handling party affairs by themselves and did not need outsiders to interfere.
“Please mind your own business. We know what we are doing. MIC is a big banyan tree and he (Samy Vellu) is the protector,” he said.
He said if there was no MIC, then the Indians would be orphans without an effective representation for them in the country.
Another delegate said the party election had strengthened the hands of Samy Vellu and was a strong rebuke for Dr. Mahathir.
N. Muniandy of Ampang also took a dig at Dr Mahathir who had said that MIC had not done anything for the Indians.
“Whenever he came to the MIC general assembly, we heaped lots of praises but he did not speak of anything for the community.
“We gave him our resolutions but what did he do with them? He has done nothing for the community,” he said.
However, Samy Vellu interjected when Muniandy called on the delegates to move a resolution to condemn Dr Mahathir for his actions, saying that Dr. Mahathir had done a lot for the country.

Semasa Tun Dr. Mahathir berada di tampuk pemerintahan, Samylah sanggup menyuapkan kek ke mulut orang tua itu, saban tahun. Hari ini, Tun Dr. Mahathir tidak bernilai lagi.

tunku : if Tun Dr Mahathir has done nothing for the Indian community , there won't be rich Indians like Ananda Krishnan, Vinod Shekar, Tony Fernandes, G.Gnanalingam.this is the official names, the unofficial name are like samy vellu, vell pari etc,they are all multi millionaires.the Indian community should blame those rich Indians for not helping them.At least murugiah(deputy minister) said the right thing.the government had done it best and will continue to do so. one of the mic delegates said that samy vellu is their "untouchable king" and their "protector", well ask your protector to help you, why complaint to others.as a protector he should have protected his people.it is true, this lots(some of them) are ungrateful.

1. Why this particular delegate made such a stupid remark. In this case he is totally ignorant. We can list out one by one [maybe can make few volumes of books] that Mahathir has done us proud to our country. UMNO should condemn this stupid fella.

Call me racist if you want, but it seems the Indians are never satisfied at all with what the govt. has done for them. I don't understand why they keep on having the seige mentality. The poor in Malaysia cross racial lines. i dare bet that there are more por malays, both in absolute, and even in relative terms, compared to poor Indians. Why don't they for once realise how fortunate they are to be in Malaysia?

PUTRAJAYA: The idea to “garland” Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s photograph with slippers was rude, uncalled for and extreme, said Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.
He said even if MIC members were unhappy with the former prime minister’s statement or “so-called interference in the party’s affairs,” its members should not have gone to the extent of being rude and disrespecteful.
“I view this ... as extreme and disrespectful. We must never forget our values and culture of respecting others. If we want others to respect us, then we must accord respect to others.
“We must lead by example and in this case, MIC members must show that they respect others, respect leaders and are individuals who value culture and tradition,” he said on Monday.
Hishammuddin, who is also Home Minister, was commenting on a suggestion raised during the MIC convention to garland Dr Mahathir’s photograph with slippers.
The suggestion came as some members were upset with the former premier who had made statements on party president Datuk Seri Dr S. Samy Vellu.
Dr Mahathir was quoted by Tamil daily Makkal Osai that Samy Vellu had done nothing for the well-being of the Indian community in this country.
TDM has every right to comment when he was asked to.
Was it an inteference in the internal affairs of MIC? My answer would be a big NO.
He is an Ex-PM of Malaysia, not Ex-PM of UMNO and he was commenting on BN affairs.
