The special acts of the month of Ramadhaan (fasting) terminate with the coming of Eid. The first day of Shawal is called Eid-ul-Fitr and the tenth day of Zulhijjah is called Eid-ul-Adha. These two Eids are of great rejoicing for the Muslims.

On the day of Eid-ul-Fitr 13 things are Sunnah:

1. To adorn oneself as permitted by Shari'at.
2. To take a bath.
3. To clean the teeth with Miswaak.
4. To wear the best cloths that one has.
5. To use perfume.
6. To rise early in the morning.
7. To go to the Eid Prayer very early.
8. To eat something sweet like dates before going to the Eid Prayer.
9. To give Sadqa-e-Fitr before going to Eid Prayer.(Zakat Fitrah)
10. To offer Eid prayer in the Eid Gaah, that is not to offer it in the mosque of the locality without any legitimate excuse.
11. To go to the Eid Gaah by one way and to come back another way.(this is just sunnah not a must)
12. To go on foot.(this is just sunnah not a must)
13. To recite slowly on the way to the Eid Gaah(Takbir Raya),
14. “Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Laa ilaaha illallahu Wallahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Wa lillahil Hamd."

"Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest. There is no deity besides Allah and Allah is the greatest. Allah is the greatest and all praises are for Allah only."

Malaysia To Be Among Top 10 In Global Unity Index By 2012

KUCHING, Sept 16 (Bernama) -- Malaysia targets to be among the top 10 countries in the Global Unity Index within the next three years, said Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Datuk T. Murugiah.
Murugiah, who is in charge of the National Unity and Integration Department, said the Global Unity Index, a yearly publication by a non-governmental organisation based in the United States, would decide which countries were successful in nurturing unity and creating harmony and peace among races.
He said Malaysia was at 38th placing in 2007, 32nd last year and 26th this year.
In Asia, Malaysia finished 3rd after Japan and Singapore.
"I've instructed the department to go down to the grassroots to promote unity, to tell the people that we are Malaysians irrespective of race and religious backgrounds," he said.
Murugiah described Sarawak as setting a good example on racial unity.

tunku : if there is no anwar ibrahim in Malaysia then we are already among the top 10.it is because of him this nation is apart.the unity that we have is not easy to achieve, lots of sacrifices by the former leaders of this nation. we hope that everyone can really understand the importance of it in order for us to be a great nation.everyone should know their role.

MIC Should Make An Open Apology To Dr Mahathir, Says Mukhriz

PETALING JAYA, Sept 15 (Bernama) -- MIC should make an open apology to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and all the people hurt over the "slippers garland" issue," said the former prime minister's son Datuk Mukhriz.
Although MIC had taken action to suspend the membership of the delegate who hurled the insult against Dr Mahathir at the party's just-concluded annual general assembly, Mukhriz, who is also Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister and Member of Parliament for Jerlun, said this was not enough to pacify things.
"It's not only Tun (Dr Mahathir) who is hurt by the remarks," he said when breaking fast with members of the media at Restoran Khadijah's Kitchen in Jalan Bukit here today.
Mukhriz said only an open apology would prove MIC's sincerity in wanting to maintain good ties among Barisan Nasional component parties and that something like this should not have happened because it was hurtful to many.
He said this when asked to comment on MIC's decision to suspend the membership of the delegate concerned pending a full inquiry for suggesting a garland of slippers be hung around a potrait of Dr Mahathir.
Earlier, in KUALA LUMPUR, Mukhriz had said MIC members did not share the sentiments of the delegate who had made the "garland of slippers" suggestion for Dr Mahathir.
He said he had received quite a number of messages on the short-message service (sms) and calls from friends in MIC on the matter.
"They assured me that they do not share the sentiments of the person who had made the comment in the (MIC) assembly and that it does not represent the majority.
"So, I hope this is true and we can move forward," he had told reporters after officiating a seminar entitled "Opportunites from AFTA and Regional FTAs", organised by Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation.
He said that it was unfortunate that his father's statements had brought about some emotional reaction from one of the MIC members.
Mukhriz said Dr Mahathir had only asked MIC to undergo changes as demanded by the people who wanted a fresh new look in the party.
"He (Dr Mahathir) himself after helming UMNO and the Barisan Nasional (BN) for 22 years felt that he should not wait until he was thrown out before retiring," said Mukhriz.
Other component parties within the BN, like Umno, were undergoing changes and MIC was no exception, he said, adding that the BN had only about two and a half years to change before the next general election.
"We are always looking at MIC as a major partner in BN representing the Indian community. Therefore, we hope that the changes demanded by the people will be carried out by MIC," he said.
Meanwhile, Wanita Umno has also demanded that the delegate concerned apologise to Dr Mahathir and people of Malaysia for passing such remarks.
Its head Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said the remarks were unacceptable and did not fit into Malaysian culture.
Shahrizat, who is also Women, Family and Community Development Minister, said she welcomed the party's action in suspending the membership of the delegate pending a full inquiry but the wing insisted that the person meets Dr Mahathir to apologise.
"If we look at the true Indian culture, they will kiss the feet of their elders. In this respect, Dr Mahathir is a father figure in this country," she added.

tunku : yes we want an open apology from mic.by suspending the man does not mean that mic doesn't agree with his statement. by right mic should had issued an official statement and made an open apology for the statement from one of it's 'kurang ajar' member. like what DS Aziz Shamsudin said samy was the man who kisses Tun Mahathir's hand the most and now just look at his true colour. anyone who criticizes him is his enemy.he just can't accept any critics or advice which is not in his favour.

Umno is sure to fall, says Nik Aziz

KOTA BARU: PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat has predicted that Umno is doomed because its practices and policies are against Islam.
He said Umno would have better chances of survival if it competed against another secular party.
Umno was against Islam as the main thrust of its policy was to champion the cause of the Malays, not Islam, he said.
“Umno is sure to die and it is only a matter of time before this happens.
“Umno made the biggest mistake by championing a policy that only offers worldly rewards,” Nik Abdul Aziz told reporters after launching a donation drive to build a RM7mil mosque at Bandar Baru Tunjong, a new Islamic-concept township, here, yesterday.
Nik Abdul Aziz, who is also Kelantan Mentri Besar, was asked to comment on the latest posting by former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in his blog that Umno and Barisan Nasional were likely to share the same fate as Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party, which ruled the country since World War II and was defeated by the Democratic Party of Japan in the recent general election.
Dr Mahathir also said the election result followed the trend of many political parties that had struggled and achieved independence that had disappeared.

tunku : nik aziz should remember that umno is about to fall but pas had fallen before it can even stand tall. even though pas has more seats than before but spiritually it has died.it has sold it's soul to others just because of greed of power.it has become so arrogant and it's is no longer the pas that practices Islam.now pas is practicing dap's and pkr's ideology.Islam and hudud laws are swept under the carpet.the senile old man should look at his party first before making statement at other party so that he won't look like stupid. what is pas doing for Islam in the state rules by them? there is no Islamic rule, Islamic principle or whatsoever. in fact there are more illegal immoral activities and entertainment outlets now than before under them.what Tun Mahathir said was an advice to all party generally which is right.it is totally different statement from nik aziz but as we know, who is nik aziz and who is Tun Mahathir.we can't expect nik aziz to talk smart when he's not.

How to Seek Laylatul-Qadr

by Shaykh Muhammad Nasir-ud-Deen al-Albani

Laylat ul-Qadr is the most blessed night. A person who misses it has indeed missed a great amount of good. If a believing person is zealous to obey his Lord and increase the good deeds in his record, he should strive to encounter this night and to pass it in worship and obedience. If this is facilitated for him, all of his previous sins will be forgiven.

Praying Qiyaam It is recommended to make a long Qiyaam prayer during the nights on which Laylat ul-Qadr could fall. This is indicated in many hadeeths, such as the following: Abu Tharr (radhiallahu `anhu) relates: "We fasted with Allah's Messenger (sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam) in Ramadaan. He did not lead us (in qiyaam) at all until there were seven (nights of Ramadaan) left. Then he stood with us (that night - in prayer) until one third of the night had passed. He did not pray with us on the sixth. On the fifth night, he prayed with us until half of the night had passed. So we said, 'Allah's Messenger! Wouldn't you pray with us the whole night?' He replied: 'Whoever stands in prayer with the imaam until he (the imaam) concludes the prayer, it is recorded for him that he prayed the whole night.'?" [Recorded by Ibn Abi Shaybah, Abu Dawud, at-Tirmithi (who authenticated it), an-Nasa'i, Ibn Majah, at-Tahawi (in Sharhu Ma`an il-Athar, Ibn Nasr, al-Faryabi, and al-Bayhaqi. Their isnad is authentic.] [Point of benefit: Abu Dawud mentioned: "I heard Ahmad being asked, 'Do you like for a man to pray with the people or by himself during Ramadan?' He replied, 'Pray with the people' I also heard him say, 'I would prefer for one to pray (qiyaam) with the imaam and to pray witr with him as well, for the Prophet (sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam) said: "When a man prays with the imaam until he concludes, it is recorded that he prayed the rest of that night." [Masaa'il] Abu Hurayrah (radhiallahu `anhu) narrated that the Messenger (sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam) said: "Whoever stands (in qiyaam) in Laylat ul-Qadr [and it is facilitated for him] out of faith and expectation (of Allah's reward), will have all of his previous sins forgiven." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim; the addition "and it is facilitated for him" is recorded by Ahmad from the report of `Ubaadah Bin as-Samit; it means that he is permitted to be among the sincere worshippers during that blessed night.]

Making Supplications It is also recommended to make extensive supplication on this night. `A'ishah (radhiallahu `anha) reported that she asked Allah's Messenger (sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam), "O Messenger of Allah! If I knew which night is Laylat ul-Qadr, what should I say during it?" And he instructed her to say: "Allahumma innaka `afuwwun tuh.ibbul `afwa fa`fu `annee - O Allah! You are forgiving, and you love forgiveness. So forgive me." [Recorded by Ahmad, Ibn Majah, and at-Tirmithi. Verified to be authentic by Al-Albani]

Abandoning Worldly Pleasures for the Sake of Worship It is further recommended to spend more time in worship during the nights on which Laylat ul-Qadr is likely to be. This calls for abandoning many worldly pleasures in order to secure the time and thoughts solely for worshipping Allah. `A'ishah (radhiallahu `anha) reported: "When the (last) ten started, the Prophet (sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam) would tighten his izaar (i.e. he stayed away from his wives in order to have more time for worship), spend the whole night awake (in prayer), and wake up his family." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim] And she said: "Allah's Messenger (sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam) used to exert more (in worship) on the last ten than on other nights." [Muslim]

MIC assembly: Delegates tick off Dr Mahathir

KUALA LUMPUR: Delegates to MIC’s general assembly took to task former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for his criticism of MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu in the run up to the party polls.
One delegate said that the MIC leaders were capable of handling party affairs by themselves and did not need outsiders to interfere.
“Please mind your own business. We know what we are doing. MIC is a big banyan tree and he (Samy Vellu) is the protector,” he said.
He said if there was no MIC, then the Indians would be orphans without an effective representation for them in the country.
Another delegate said the party election had strengthened the hands of Samy Vellu and was a strong rebuke for Dr. Mahathir.
N. Muniandy of Ampang also took a dig at Dr Mahathir who had said that MIC had not done anything for the Indians.
“Whenever he came to the MIC general assembly, we heaped lots of praises but he did not speak of anything for the community.
“We gave him our resolutions but what did he do with them? He has done nothing for the community,” he said.
However, Samy Vellu interjected when Muniandy called on the delegates to move a resolution to condemn Dr Mahathir for his actions, saying that Dr. Mahathir had done a lot for the country.

BISIK-BISIK (Utusan Malaysia)

Awang Selamat

tunku : if Tun Dr Mahathir has done nothing for the Indian community , there won't be rich Indians like Ananda Krishnan, Vinod Shekar, Tony Fernandes, G.Gnanalingam.this is the official names, the unofficial name are like samy vellu, vell pari etc, they are all multi millionaires.the Indian community should blame those rich Indians for not helping them.At least murugiah(deputy minister) said the right thing.the government had done it best and will continue to do so. one of the mic delegates said that samy vellu is their "untouchable king" and their "protector", well ask your protector to help you, why complaint to others.as a protector he should have protected his people.it is true, this lots(some of them) are ungrateful.

Fasting, A Gift From Your Creator

Fasting is one of the pillars of Islam. It has been an integral part of all major religions. The Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) fasted for forty days before he was called to prophethood (Matthew 4:2). Similarly Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) fasted for forty days and nights before he was given the Law (Exodus 24:18).

Controlling Desires.... Fasting in Ramadan is a part of the broader program that Islam prescribes for man to fulfill his moral and spiritual destiny in this world and in the Hereafter. It is the special worship designed to develop in man the ability to exercise self-restraint and patience for the pleasure of Allah, man's Creator, Lord and Nourisher. Its objective is to give man the power to keep in check his unruly desires and tendencies that make him prone to greed, revenge, anger, provocation and fear; that make him commit various sins, acts of aggression, cruelty and oppression. It seeks to free the human soul and lends it the moral and spiritual strength to promote beauty, harmony, kindness, peace, compassion and justice. The Qur'an says:
" We sent Our Messengers with clear signs and sent down with them the Book and the balance (of right and wrong), that men may stand forth in justice." (57:25)

Fasting for Taqwa.... Prescribing fasting the Qur'an says:
"O you who believe, fasting is prescribed to you as it was to those before you, that you may (learn) self-restraint." (2:183)

The original Arabic word translated here as self-restraint is taqwa, which has a much broader significance. It symbolizes that basic mortal quality that demarcates the line between morality and amorality, and distinguishes humans from animals as moral beings. It represents love of good with an eagerness to respond to it, and a strong desire to keep away from what is evil and harmful. Those who are neutral or immune to questions of good and bad, justice and injustice, compassion and cruelty, loyalty and treachery are in the words of the Qur'an like the blind, deaf, and dumb cattle, whose only concern in life is to fill their stomachs."They have hearts wherewith they understand not, eyes wherewith they see not, and ears wherewith they hear not."

Developing Taqwa.... This moral quality is nourished and can be developed only by controlling and keeping in check one's desires, impulses, and emotions and that is precisely what fasting is prescribed to achieve. The Arabic word for fasting used in the above verse is siyam which means to leave something or to avoid it. In the light of this, Islamic fasting may be defined as the worship in which man willingly forsakes his quite legitimate needs like eating, drinking and other lawful pleasures in compliance with the commandment of god, every day for a whole month, Ramadan, the ninth month in the Islamic calendar. Thus Islamic fasting is not merely leaving all that is evil. The Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) said: "When one of you is fasting and someone abuses him or fights with him, he should tell him `I cannot respond to you for I am fasting.'" On another occasion he said "He who does not leave evil only gets thirst and hunger from fasting."

Through fasting we seek closeness to God by obeying him sincerely and carrying out his will in our daily life, our actions and thoughts, till our days and nights bear witness that He is dearer to us than anything else. Look at the time schedule of a believer during this month; getting up early before dawn for a light snack, stopping all eating and drinking all day, being anxious to devote himself to prayers and adoration of God, eagerness to do good and eschew evil, and during the nights of this month to stand in prayer for hours, sacrificing sleep and comfort, offering special extra prayers: more or less like one of a soldier under rigorous training. The only difference here is that it is not just one physical battle he is training for, but an all-comprehensive and continuous war against evil, both from within and without.

Special Rewards..... It is well known that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) regularly observed fasting in other parts of the year besides Ramadan, and he always exhorted his followers to do the same. But it is in the month of Ramadan when the entire Muslim community all over the world observes fasting that a special meaning emerges. It transforms fasting into an institution that elevates the human soul to unprecedented heights. The Prophet (PBUH) said: "Every good deed is rewarded from ten to seven hundred times over, but God says fasting is the exception; it is for Me, and My servant forgoes his eating and drinking for my sake, so I Myself will reward My servant for it."

Gift of Qur'an...... Association of fasting with the month of Ramadan reminds us that it was during this month that Allah perfected His blessing upon mankind by giving us His last book, the Qur'an.
"Ramadan is the month in which was sent down the Qur'an as a guide to mankind, also clear (signs) for guidance and judgement (between right and wrong). So everyone of you who is present (at home) during that month should spend it in fasting." (The Qur'an, 2:185)

Fasting in the month of Ramadan thus takes on a new spiritual and moral significance. It is the month in which we celebrate the praises of our Lord God for the great gift of the Qur'an. We glorify Him and extol His holiness by fasting during this month. The Qur'an not only shows man the right path, but also guides human reason and lays down a clear criterion between right and wrong, good and evil. It is not just a book of do's and don'ts, but is the repository of infinite wisdom, and a guidance to the highest moral and spiritual excellence as well as to material and temporal success. The Qur'an regards human reason as the greatest single gift of God to man, and addresses its message to it, but it can function properly only if it is free and objective in its outlook. Fasting helps free human reason from the tyranny of unruly lusts and appetites, whims and caprices, individual and social, which often overwhelm and enslave it. Fasting puts human reason back in the driving seat by restraining, not suppressing or destroying three dominant human desires: desire for comfort, desire for food, and desire for procreation of his species. The Qur'an liberates human reason from the clutches of blind but powerful and unbridled emotion and sentiment.

THE STRAIGHT PATH............ Following the path of good is often unpalatable, and involves struggle against one's own desires and interests. It may also sometimes mean doing or saying what one considers true but is not popular and hence risking the anger and displeasure of others, sometimes of those most dear and near. To stand firm under these circumstances steadfastly following the right path requires a great deal of inner strength and self-restraint - a prime moral and human quality - to choose what is right and then abide by it notwithstanding the difficulties and sacrifices. "Wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leads to destruction, and many there are that follow it," whereas "strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leads to life, and few are they who find it." (Matthew 6:13-14)

Islam seeks to guide man onto the path to eternal life and prepares him for it through worship, prayers, charity and fasting. All these are meant to enable man to exercise control over his own life and have the moral courage to take the path of truth, justice and compassion. It wants reason to take charge of the ship of life and steer it wisely and safely through the stormy and dangerous seas of this life under the guidance of Divine Revelation. That is the message of Ramadan. Let us heed the message and proclaim: " God is my Lord and your Lord; then worship Him. This is the way that is straight." (The Qur'an 3:51)

A sad day for MIC: Samy's men wins

Palanivel Wins MIC No 2 Post

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 12 (Bernama) -- MIC long serving president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu maintained his grip on the largest Indian-based party in the country after his preferred candidates captured all key posts at the party's polls held at the Putra World Trade Centre here Saturday.
Leading the president's cast was deputy president Datuk G. Palanivel who beat former deputy president Datuk S. Subramaniam and former party vice-president Datuk S. Sothinathan with a 82 vote majority.
Palanivel polled 629 votes against Subramaniam's 547 votes and Sothinathan's 280 votes.
A total 1,460 delegates voted in the polls .
In the vice-president's race, Human Resource Minister Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam came out tops in the seven cornered fight. The other two who will fill the three veep seats up for grabs were deputy minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk S.K. Devamany and Federal Territories deputy minister Datuk M. Saravanan.
Dr Subramaniam polled 1,260 votes, Devamany 1,122 votes and Saravanan 1,030 votes.
Other candidates in the race were Datuk S. Balakrishnan (471 votes), Datuk V.K.K. Teagarajan (215 votes), P. Subramaniam (471 votes) and P. Mariayee (61 votes).
Meanwhile, in the race for the 23 central working committee (CWC) seats, all but four of the president's preferred candidates made the cut.
Samy Vellu had last month named 27 CWC preferred candidates to fill the 23 posts.
Those who managed to break the president's list were Datuk S. Ganeson of Kedah, Madhu Marimuthu, K.P. Samy and S.P. Manikavasagam, all from Selangor.
Five state chiefs lost the CWC contest. They are Datuk G. Rajoo (Perak), Datuk T. Rajagopalu (Negeri Sembilan), Datuk R. Raghavan (Melaka), Datuk Dr R. Rajapathy (Penang) and Datuk V. Saravanan (Kedah).
Samy Vellu speaking to reporters after the results were announced by MIC election steering committee head Datuk K. Vijayanathan, thanked delegates for showing support for him.
"I hope the winners will be a good team to work for the betterment of the Indian community. Today, the election is over and we should not continue our feuds. Its time to close ranks," he added.
He also urged supporters of all camps in the polls to bury any animosity for the sake if the Malaysian Indian community.
"Some people have been speaking about change and I have given them change. Out of the 23 CWC members elected 18 are new members, all the three vice-presidents are new and the deputy president is only three years old serving his second term," Samy Vellu said.
The results itself, say observers attending the MIC elections, was a manifestation of Samy Vellu's iron grip of the MIC.
"This shows that he still has the support of the majority. There is no denying this. Despite the tough contest at this election, Palanivel who was backed by Samy Vellu made it.
"It is not only that, all his men made it to the vice-presidency and the CWC, except for two. It only shows that Samy Vellu is unshakeable in the party," said a party analyst.
Asked if Sothinathan had played spoiler by "stealing" votes from Subramaniam, resulting in the former deputy president's loss, he said this could work the otherway around.
"We can't say all of Sothinathan's votes would have gone to Subramaniam if Sothinathan did not contest. It could have gone to Palanivel and the deputy president could have had a wider majority," he pointed out.
While, Palanivel's win could be contributed to Samy Vellu strength in the party, the deputy president's support on his own should not be understimated.
A party veteran, who declined to be named, said Palanivel too had some support in the party and this added to Samy Vellu's support, ensured the win.
"We can't say that Palanivel's win was solely because of Samy Vellu. The deputy president too has his own strength and support and this proved important in a three-cornered fight like this," he said.
In the 2006 election, Palanivel beat Subramaniam with a 438 vote majority in a straight fight. Palanivel polled 933 votes against Subramaniam's 495 votes in that election.
Although Palanivel's majority was reduced at this polls, observers say were due to a three cornered fight.
The party now has to focus on one important agenda, which is to win back the Malaysian Indian community.

tunku : everyone knows how much samy throw money to make sure his men will be the winners and his legacy will stay on in mic.like what DS Najib had said earlier that it is pointless for them to strive to be popular within their own party when they are unpopular with the people.with this new team line up i am sure mic will not gain any supports from the majorityof the Indian community.we will see the result in the next general election.blame it to the delegates.i think mic and all other component parties members should start asking for the voting to come from the divisions not from the delegates which can be bought easily.

How should we observe Laylat al-Qadr and when is it?

Praise be to Allah.

Firstly:The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to strive hard in worship during the last ten days of Ramadaan as he never did at any other time, praying, reading Qur’aan and making du’aa’. Al-Bukhaari and Muslim narrated from ‘Aa’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the last ten days of Ramadaan came, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would stay up at night and would wake his family up, and would abstain from marital relations. Ahmad and Muslim narrated that he used to used to strive hard in worship during the last ten days of Ramadaan as he never did at any other time.

Secondly:

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) enjoined staying up and praying on Laylat al-Qadr out of faith and in the hope of reward. It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever stays up and prays on Laylat al-Qadr out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.” Agreed upon. This hadeeth indicates that it is prescribed to observe Laylat al-Qadr by spending the night in prayer.

Thirdly:

One of the best du’aa’s that may be recited on Laylat al-Qadr is that which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) taught to ‘Aa’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her). Al-Tirmidhi narrated, and classed the report as saheeh, that ‘Aa’ishah said: “I said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, if I know which night is Laylat al-Qadr, what should I say on that night?’ He said, ‘Say: Allaahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibb al-‘afwa fa’affu ‘anni (O Allah, You are forgiving and You love forgiveness, so forgive me).”

Fourthly:

With regard to specifying which night of Ramadaan is Laylat al-Qadr, this needs specific evidence, but the odd-numbered nights during the last ten nights are more likely than others, and the night of the twenty-seventh is the most likely to be Laylat al-Qadr, because that is mentioned in the ahaadeeth.

Fifthly:

With regard to innovations, they are not permissible during Ramadaan or at other times. It was proven that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever innovates anything in this matter of ours that is not part of it will have it rejected.” According to another report, “Whoever does any action that is not part of this matter of ours will have it rejected.”

We know of no basis for the celebrations that are held during some nights of Ramadaan. The best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and the worst of matters are those which are innovated (bid’ah).

And Allah is the Source of strength. May Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions.

Umno abolishes quota systems for candidates going for top posts

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno has abolished the quota system for candidates vying for top posts in the party.
Party president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the supreme council had agreed to abolish the quota system in line with initiatives to make the electoral system more democratic and transparent.
“However, those seeking top posts should fulfil certain criteria. But the criteria set should not be restrictive,” he said after chairing the Umno supreme council meeting Friday.
Najib said the criteria system needed to be imposed to ensure only those who truly understand the principles, objectives and sprit of the party vie for top posts.
He said the supreme council had in principle agreed to revamp the electoral system to check money politics and to make the election process more transparent.
On the number of members empowered to vote, Najib said the council did not make any conclusive decision in view of logistical setbacks.
He said the party’s political bureau would come up with the fine details on the proposed amendment to the party constitution and table them at the next supreme council meeting.
“Certainly the number of members who will be eligible to vote will be higher than the present 2,500.”
He said the polling process to pick national leaders might involve thousands of delegates.
Najib said the draft proposal would be finally tabled at the special Umno general assembly in October for endorsement.
On the Bagan Pinang by-election, Najib said Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who is the BN deputy chairman would coordinate the preparations.
On speculations that 10% of Sime Darby’s stake would be sold to China, Najib said he would not make any pre-emptive statements on the matter as it involved a public listed company.

tunku : it is a good start but still lots and lots of changes needed.time is running fast and umno must move real fast.they can't take thing easy like before, they must move forward using turbo engine now.we hope the leaders knows the actual situation on the ground and get updated by the minutes.

Lailatul Qadr : The Night of Power

Qadr means honour and dignity. Lailatul Qadr means the night of honour and dignity. It is this night in which the first Divine Revelation came to the Prophet sallalahu alayhi wasallam, when he was in prayer in the cave of Hira. Since this night enjoys the honour of having the first revelation brought to the Prophet sallalahu alayhi wasallam, it has been named Lailatul Qadr.

This is one of the holiest and most blessed nights, which is likely to occur on one of the odd nights on the last ten days of Ramadhan and most likely to be the 27th. The reward of worship on this night is better than the worship of a thousand months of worship, equivalent to a person's lifetime. So, on this night one should pray nafil namaz, recite the Quran, do Tasbih, Zikr, Duas, etc as much as possible.

This night had already opened its gates of treasures when the angel for the first time had come with the Divine Message in the cave of Hira, but its auspiciousness has continued to be with us permanently. Every year in the month of Ramadhan, this night is given to the Ummah. Muslims engage in prayers, recitation of Quran and praying to Allah, as the Prophet sallalahu alayhi wasallam said: "The person who offered prayers to Allah in the night of Dignity with faith and with hope of reward from Allah, all his past sins have been forgiven." (Bukhaari)

As the rainy season is suitable for farming, similarly for the attainment of nearness to Allah, specific times , specific days and specific nights are most suitable, e.g. the time of Tahajjud prayers, Friday prayers, month of Ramadhan, the Day of Arafah, etc. So also the Night of Power is the most suitable night for attaining nearness to Allah.

In the Hadeeth, we have been asked to seek it in the last ten nights of the month of Ramadhan. Hazrat Aa'ishah radhiyallahu anhaa narrates that the Messenger of Allah sallalahu alayhi wasallam has said, 'Seek the night of Dignity in the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadhan'.(Bukhaari).

By odd nights, the reference is made to the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th, 29th night of the month of Ramadhan. No one night has been fixed so that the yearning to find it may increase and people may spend more nights in worshipping Allah. From this aspect, the importance of `Itikaaf (seclusion) during the last ten days of Ramadhan is clear.

Some special prayers and Zikr for Laitul Qadr

1. Seeking Forgiveness. Hazrat Aa'ishah radhiyallahu anhaa asked the Prophet sallalahu alayhi wasallam that if she happened to get the night sublime what prayer should she say. The Prophet sallalahu alayhi wasallam replied that she should say the following prayer :

"Allahumma innaka afuwwun kareemun tuhib-bul af-wa fa-afo anni"
(O Allah, You are the One who grants pardon for sins, loves forgiving, so forgive me.)

2. Reciting Astaghfar. The following should be recited as much as possible:
"Astaghfirullah hallazi la-ila-ha illa huwal Hayyul Qayyumo wa atu-bu ilaihe"
(I seek forgiveness from Allah, the Almighty, there is no God but He. He is self-Existent, the Eternal and I return to Him)

3. Reciting Surah `Inna anzalnahu...'
"Inna anzalnahu fee lailatul Qadr, Wa maa adraka maa lailatul Qadr.
Lailatul Qadri khairum min alfi shahr. Tanazzalul malai-katu var-roohu
fee ha bi izni Rabbihim min kulle amr. Salaamun heya hatta matla-il fajr."

4. Do Salatul Tasbih.

5. Do Afzul Zikr i.e. La ilaha illallah

MIC polls: Samy Vellu unhappy over Dr M move

KUALA LUMPUR: MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu has levelled another accusation at his former deputy Datuk S. Subramaniam, saying the challenger for the MIC deputy presidency had disgraced the party by seeking the endorsement of former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
He said Subramaniam’s move to seek the help of Dr Mahathir was a “desperate act”, claiming that this had incurred the wrath of many branch and division leaders.
“How cheap and desperate can a man be?” he asked, referring to a report in the Tamil daily Makkal Osai which quoted Dr Mahathir as saying that MIC delegates should vote for Subramaniam.
“It appears that Subramaniam has lost his support in the MIC and has to seek outside help to prop up his support among the delegates. He has lost whatever credibility that was left in him,” Samy Vellu said in a statement.
He said that he was both extremely angry and sad that Subramaniam had allowed an outsider to meddle in the party’s affairs, especially during a crucial election for the MIC.
The party supremo pointed out that when Dr Mahathir was in power, he had said that the Barisan Nasional could not interfere in the internal affairs of a component party.
“But now he interferes in our party matters,” he said.
He said the MIC was holding its elections through the democratic process to allow delegates to pick their leaders and “is not facing any problems for outsiders to get involved.”
“I urge MIC delegates to condemn the actions by Subramaniam and his supporters in getting an outsider involved in our party matters.
“If we allow this to happen, in future, outsiders will continue to interfere in our affairs and we will lose our dignity and respect,” Samy Vellu said.

tunku : samy is feeling the heat.he can't take it anymore.he is still dreaming that mic is a very strong party and Indian community are behind him.it is samy who is so desperate when he named his choice of list for mic leaders.there is not a single party in bn do that.it happens only in mic.samy has the power to force the delegates to elect his choice of candidates.samy for your info,Tun Dr Mahathir does not hold any position in Umno or BN, so he has the right to suggest anything he likes.every bn component party leaders knows that samy is a thorn in bn but he think he is the rose.they hate to see him being so stubborn.even the pm can't stand with his attitude.if he is still the president of mic, mic will never rise again.to get rid of him MIC delegates should not vote for samy's man.

Duties of Muslims in the Last Third of Ramadan

By Dr Muhammad Abu Laylah

The last third of Ramadan is the time for the release from Hell-fire, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said in the Hadith reported by Salman Al-Farisi: "O people, a great and a blessed month is approaching you. In this month there is a night that is better than one thousand months. Allah has made fasting during its daytime obligatory and prayers at night commendable during this month. Whosoever will do a voluntary good deed during this month, it is as if he performed an obligatory good deed at another time and whosoever will perform an obligatory good deed, it is as if he performed seventy obligatory good deeds at another time. This is the month of patience and the reward of patience is Paradise. This is the month of kindness and charity. In this month the believer’s provision is enlarged. Anyone who will give food to a fasting person in this month, it will bring forgiveness for his sins, will save him from the hellfire and he shall have his reward without the person who is fed losing any of his reward….The first third of the month of Ramadan is the time for Rahmah (Mercy), the second third is for forgiveness, the third is for the release from Hellfire…"

The duties of the Muslim in this last third of Ramadan are to try his best to perfect his fasting, to avoid any shortcomings or sins that can harm his fasting, to offer more prayers, preferably in congregation, to advance in reading the Qur'an, making dhikr (remembrance of Allah), and helping others to be more committed to religion, to enter i`tikaf (seclusion) if it is possible for him/her, and to remember that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to give extra attention to the last ten days of Ramadan. He could hardly sleep, and his family used also to stay in vigilance with him. The Prophet's generosity in this month and particularly in the last ten days was compared to a fast wind.

We should not miss to remind you and all Muslims to try to settle disputes. It is the best occasion to forgive one another and forget about all enmities and grudges. We should come out of Ramadan in a better shape, understanding, and moral behavior. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made it clear that "If any Muslim comes out of Ramadan without gaining forgiveness and goodness, he/she is a real loser."

PKR rep sues MP from DAP, media firms

KUCHING: Padungan assemblyman Dominique Ng Kim Ho of PKR has filed a defamation suit against Bandar Kuching MP Chong Chieng Jen of the DAP, both member parties of the Pakatan Rakyat alliance.
Ng alleged that Chong, the Sarawak DAP state secretary and also Kota Sentosa assemblyman, had defamed him in several press statements published by two Chinese newspapers.
“The most serious allegation was when he accused me of being a ‘stumbling block’ to the co-operation between PKR and DAP,” he said on Wednesday.
Ng also named See Hua Daily News and Sin Chew Media Corp, which published the statements, as co-defendants.
In his suit, he would leave it to the court to decide on damages.
Chong said he received the writ on Monday, adding that he was not afraid of the lawsuit.
“I have learnt from experience and am used to it,” he added.
Chong’s father Siaw Chiang earlier brought a similar defamation suit against Ng who was the former state PKR liaison chairman.
“Siaw Chiang sued me over an incident during the March 2008 general election. I have counter-sued him over another incident,” added Ng.

tunku : in bn we are seeing ong tee kiat(mca) and tiong king sing(spdp) suing each other and in pakatan dominic ng(pkr) and chong chieng jen(dap).what a great melodrama.pkr fighting with dap from day one in sarawak over who will have more seats and they are dreaming of wresting the state.

Cuepacs Thanks Government For Goodwill Payment

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 9 (Bernama) -- The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (CUEPACS) thanked the government for the RM500 special assistance for support group civil servants announced by the government Wednesday.
"We thank the government for the goodwill gesture but we are also disappointed because we had expected one month bonus for all civil servants," secretary-general Ahmad Shah Mohd Zin said when contacted.
He said Cuepacs hoped that the government would compensate by giving a higher bonus next year.
Some 860,000 civil staff will receive the assistance in two payments before Hari Raya and in December, to reduce their burden for the coming festival celebration and to prepare for the new school term.
It will cost the government RM430 million.

tunku : be grateful, at least government sector getting something out of nothing.almost 95% from private sector gets nothing.please be grateful, don't say that you are disappointed.

Maximize the last 10 days of Ramadan

Laylatul Qadr (the Night of Power) is described in the Quran as, "better than a thousand months" (97:3). Any action done on this night such as reciting the Quran, remembering Allah, etc. is better than acting for one thousand months which do not contain the night of Qadr.

Allah's Messenger used to exert himself in devotion during the last ten nights to a greater extent than at any other time." (Muslim). Allah's peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet.
Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, related that the Prophet said: Look for Laylatul Qadr on an odd-numbered night during the last ten nights of Ramadan (Bukhari).
The Prophet said: "Whoever prays during the night of Qadr with faith and hoping for its reward will have all of his previous sins forgiven." (Bukhari and Muslim recorded from Abu Huraira).
Here are some tips of things we can do on the Night of Power and the time before and after it.

1. Take a vacation for Allah.
We take a break from our jobs for almost everything in life. Why not this time to focus on worshiping and thanking our Creator.
If this is not possible at least take a few days off if you can. This can make it easier to stay awake at night to do extra Ibadah, not having to worry about getting to work the next day. It will also facilitate doing Itikaf.

2. Do I'tikaf.
It was a practice of the Prophet to spend the last ten days and nights of Ramadan in the masjid for I'tikaf.
Those in I'tikaf stay in the masjid all this time, performing various forms of zikr (the remembrance of Allah), like doing extra Salat, recitation and study of the Quran. They do not go outside the masjid except in case of emergencies, therefore, they sleep in the masjid. Their families or the masjid administration takes care of their food needs. I'tikaf of a shorter period of time, like one night, a day or a couple of days is encouraged as well.

3. Make this special Dua.
Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, said: I asked the Messenger of Allah: 'O Messenger of Allah, if I know what night is the night of Qadr, what should I say during it?' He said: 'Say: O Allah, You are pardoning and You love to pardon, so pardon me.' "(Ahmad, Ibn Majah, and Tirmidhi).
The transliteration of this Dua is "Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun tuhibbul 'afwa fa'fu 'annee"

4. Recite the Quran.
Perhaps you can choose Surahs or passages from the Quran, which you have heard in Tarawih this past Ramadan to recite.
If you attend a class where the recitation of the Quran is taught, this is a great time to put your knowledge into practice.

5. Reflect on the meaning of the Quran.
Choose the latest Surah or Surahs you've heard in Tarawih and read their translation and Tafseer. Then think deeply about their meaning and how it affects you on a personal level.

6. Get your sins wiped out.
Abu Huraira narrated that the Messenger said: Whoever stands (in prayer) in Laylatul Qadr while nourishing his faith with self-evaluation, expecting reward from Allah, will have all of his previous sins forgiven. [Bukhari and Muslim).
Don't just pray using the shorter Surahs that you know. Try to make your prayers longer, deeper and meaningful. If you are familiar with longer Surahs, read the translation and explanation and then pray reciting these Surahs, carefully reflecting on the meaning while you pray.
Even if you are only familiar with the shorter Surahs, read the translation and explanation beforehand, and then pray reflecting on the message of the Surahs.
This is a good way to develop the habit of concentration, even in regular prayers, where many of us tend to be fidgety and/or easily distracted.

7. Make a personal Dua list.
Ask yourself what you really want from Allah. Make a list of each and everything, no matter how small or how big it is, whether it deals with this world or not. Allah loves to hear from us. Once this list is ready, you can do three things:

  • Ask Allah to give you those things
  • Think about what actions you have taken to get those things
  • Develop a work plan to get those things in future.

8. Evaluate yourself.
Ask yourself those questions that need to be asked. Do an evaluation of where you are and where you are going. Let this evaluation lead you to feel happiness for the good you have done and remorse for the bad you have done. This latter feeling should make it easier to seek Allah's sincere forgiveness when making the Dua mentioned in tip number one above.

9. Make long, sincere and deep Duas
One of the best times to do this is during the last part of the night.
Abu Huraira, may Allah be pleased with him, related that the Prophet said: When the last one-third of the night remains, our Lord, the Glorious One descends towards the heaven of the earth and proclaims: Who is that who supplicates for Me, and I grant his supplication? Who is that who begs Me for anything and I grant it to him? And who is that who seeks My forgiveness, and I forgive him? (Bukhari, Muslim).
That means for instance, waking up one hour before Suhoor time to ask Allah for anything and everything you want that is Halal. This can be done using the Duas of the Sunnah, but also Dua in your own language, with sincerity and conviction.

10. Memorize a different Dua every night
They don't have to be long. They can be just one line. And be sure to know what they mean generally at least, even if you don't know the exact translation in English.
You can put them on index cards (or and keep them with you during the day, glancing at them during work, while driving, waiting in line, etc.) Then practice them at night in prayer.

11. Have Iftar with the family
If you've spent Iftar time on weekdays in your cubicle at work alone with a couple of dates, now is the last few days you'll have this Ramadan to spend with your family. Use it wisely.

12. Take the family to Tarawih
Have your spouse and kids missed Tarawih most of Ramadan because you weren't there to drive them to the Masjid, which is too far away to walk to? If so, do all of yourselves a favour and bring everyone for Tarawih in these last ten nights.

13. Attend the Dua after the completion of Quran recitation
Almost all Masjids where the Imam aims to finish an entire reading of the Quran in Tarawih prayers in Ramadan will be completing their recitation in these last ten nights. They may try to end on one of the odd nights and read the Dua at the end of a reading of the Quran. Attend this particular night's Tarawih prayer with your family. See if you can attend different Masjids' Tarawih prayers the night they finish reading the Quran.

14. Finish reading a book on the Prophet
Read about the Prophet's life, which can increase your love for him and Islam by seeing how much he struggled for Allah's sake. It may inspire you to push yourself even harder during these last ten nights. This community is built on sacrifice.

15. Plan for the next year
Once you've done a self-evaluation, you can plan on where you want to go, at least in the next 12 months. Laylatul Qadr is a great night to be thinking about this (without taking away from your worship), since you'll Insha Allah, be in a more contemplative state. You may choose to dedicate one night of power for evaluation and one night for planning for the next year.

16. To do list for the Night of Power
Make a to do checklist for each Night of Power. This should define how you would like your night, the one better than a thousand months, to be used. Pick things from this list and define the sequence you would like to do things in. This will help you avoid wasting your time in unproductive chats which common in the festive atmosphere of Masjids at the Night of Power.

Malaysia-Indonesia to meet over ‘vigilante squads’

PETALING JAYA: Foreign Minister Datuk Anifah Aman is meeting his Indonesian counterpart Hasan Wirajuda next Thursday following reports of “vigilante squads” and rising anger among some groups in Indonesia.
The meeting in Jakarta takes place after newspapers reported that a group of Indonesians threatened to use sharpened bamboo on Malaysians using Jalan Diponegoro, a plush area in Menteng in the Indonesian capital.
Anifah told The Star that the Cabinet discussed the matter Wednesday and he was directed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to handle the matter.
“When I meet my Indonesian counterpart, I will express Malaysia’s concern and want assurance that the Indonesian authorities can guarantee the safety of Malaysians over there,” he said when contacted in Putrajaya.
Anifah said he would also summon the Indonesian ambassador to Malaysia, Da’i Bachtiar, to express Malaysia’s concern.
Some groups in Indonesians have been expressing their anger by demonstrating in front of the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta almost daily over the last few weeks. They pelted rotten eggs at the embassy building last week after Malaysia was accused of “stealing” the Balinese pendet dance in a promotion of Malaysia aired by the Discovery Channel.
The channel has apologised, saying it was at fault for using the dance in its promotional clip and that the Malaysian Government was not to blame.
Over the years, Kuala Lumpur has been accused many times of “stealing Indonesian culture,” includings its songs and dances.

tunku : over the years, we have been feeding them, we have been robbed by them, killed, raped etc by them on our soil.it is us who supposed to demonstrate against them.the vigilante squads wants to sweep Malaysian in indonesia which would hardly be by thousands but they forget that we can clean sweep by millions here in Malaysia.Kuala Lumpur must ask jakarta to act fast against those idiots squads before things can get worst.

No Need For Discussions With UMNO, Says Nik Aziz

KOTA BAHARU, Sept 8 (Bernama) -- PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat said there was no need for discussions with Umno as long as the party's struggle was not for the Islamic cause.
He regarded a statement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in Kuala Krai yesterday on his willingness to discuss with PAS issues concerning Islam as an old issue and an attempt to play up the issue for the forthcoming election.
Nik Aziz, who is Kelantan Menteri Besar, also doubted the federal government's sincerity in helping the state.
"If (Najib) wants to protect Islam, it's better that Umno changes the party struggle from nationalism to fighting for Islam. Then only will it reflects its sincerity," he told a news conference at his office in Kota Darul Naim here on Tuesday.
However, he thanked the federal government for providing allocations for the state's development, especially for the Manik Urai constituency.
Speaking at a gathering and breaking of fast with the people at the Mara Junior Science College in Kuala Krai yesterday, Najib said he had approved RM8.9 million for development projects in Manik Urai as promised in the July 14 Manik Urai state seat by-election.

tunku : this is the proof that satan is not really chained up during Ramadhan.a bad person will always see bad in others, his heart is full of dirt even during Ramadhan.a true Muslim will never give statement like what the senile old man gives.i wonder which Islam is pas protecting especially in kedah, penang and selangor right now.

The Inner Dimensions of Fasting

by Imam Ghazali

Three Grades

It should be known that there are three grades of Fasting: ordinary, special and extra-special.

Ordinary Fasting means abstaining from food, drink and sexual satisfaction.

Special Fasting means keeping one's ears, eyes, tongue, hands and feet -- and all other organs -- free from sin.

Extra-special Fasting means fasting of the heart from unworthy concerns and worldly thoughts, in total disregard of everything but God, Great and Glorious is He. This kind of Fast is broken by thinking of worldly matters, except for those conducive to religious ends, since these constitute provision for the Hereafter and are not of this lower world. Those versed in the spiritual life of the heart have even said that a sin is recorded against one who concerns himself all day with arrangements for breaking his Fast. Such anxiety stems from lack of trust in the bounty of God, Great and Glorious is He, and from lack of certain faith in His promised sustenance.

To this third degree belong the Prophets, the true awliya and the intimates of God. It does not lend itself to detailed examination in words, as its true nature is better revealed in action. It consists in utmost dedication to God, Great and Glorious is He, to the neglect of everything other than God, Exalted is He. It is bound up with the significance of His words: 'Say: "Allah (sent it down)": then leave them to play in their vain discussions.' [al-An'am,6:91]

Inward Requirements

As for Special Fasting, this is the kind practiced by the righteous. It means keeping all one's organs free from sin and six things are required for its accomplishment:

1. SEE NOT WHAT DISPLEASES GOD

A chaste regard, restrained from viewing anything that is blameworthy or reprehensible, or that distracts the heart and diverts it from the remembrance of God, Great and Glorious is He. Said the Prophet, on him be peace: 'The furtive glance is one of the poisoned arrows of Satan, on him be God's curse. Whoever forsakes it for fear of God will receive from Him, Great and Glorious is He, a faith the sweetness of which he will find within his heart.'

Jabir relates from Anas that God's Messenger, on him be peace, said: 'Five things break a man's Fast: lying, backbiting, gossiping, perjury and a lustful gaze.'

2. SPEAK NOT...

Guarding one's tongue from idle chatter, lying, gossiping, obscenity, rudeness, arguing and controversy; making it observe silence and occupying it with remembrance of God, Great and Glorious is He, and with recitation of Quran. This is the fasting of the tongue. Said Sufyan: 'Backbiting annuls the Fast.' Layth quotes Mujahid as saying: 'Two habits annul Fasting: backbiting and telling lies.'

The Prophet, on him be peace, said: 'Fasting is a shield; so when one of you is Fasting he should not use foul or foolish talk. If someone attacks him or insults him, let him say: "I am Fasting, I am Fasting!"'

According to Tradition: 'Two women were Fasting during the time of God's Messenger, on him be peace. They were so fatigued towards the end of the day, from hunger and thirst, that they were on the verge of collapsing. They therefore sent a message to God's Messenger, on him be peace, requesting permission to break their Fast. In response, the Prophet, on him be peace, sent them a bowl and said: "Tell them to vomit into it what they have eaten." One of them vomited and half filled the bowl with fresh blood and tender meat, while the other brought up the same so that they filled it between them. The onlookers were astonished. Then the Prophet, on him be peace, said: "These two women have been Fasting from what God made lawful to them, and have broken their Fast on what God, Exalted is He, made unlawful to them. They sat together and indulged in backbiting, and here is the flesh of the people they maligned!"'

3. HEAR NOT...

Closing one's ears to everything reprehensible; for everything unlawful to utter is likewise unlawful to listen to. That is why God, Great and Glorious is He, equated the eavesdropper with the profiteer, in His words, Exalted is He:

'Listeners to falsehood, consumers of illicit gain.' [al-Ma'idah, 5:42]

God, Great and Glorious is He, also said:

'Why do their rabbis and priests not forbid them to utter sin and consume unlawful profit?' [al-Ma'idah, 5:63]

Silence in the face of backbiting is therefore unlawful. God, Exalted is He, said: 'You are then just like them.' [al-Nisa, 4:140] That is why the Prophet, on him be peace, said: 'The backbiter and his listener are copartners in sin.'

4. DO NOT...

Keeping all other limbs and organs away from sin: the hands and feet from reprehensible deeds, and the stomach from questionable food at the time for breaking Fast. It is meaningless to Fast -- to abstain from lawful food - only to break one's Fast on what is unlawful. A man who Fast like this may be compared to one who builds a castle but demolishes a city. Lawful food injurious in quantity not in quality, so Fasting is to reduce the former. A person might well give up excessive use of medicine, from fear of ill effects, but he would be a fool to switch to taking poison. The unlawful is a poison deadly to religion, while the lawful is a medicine, beneficial in small doses but harmful in excess. The object of Fasting is to induce moderation. Said the Prophet, on him be peace: 'How many of those who Fast get nothing from it but hunger and thirst!' This has been taken to mean those who break their Fast on unlawful food. Some say it refers to those who abstain from lawful food, but break their Fast on human flesh through backbiting, which is unlawful. Others consider it an allusion to those who do not guard their organs from sin.

5. AVOID OVEREATING

Not to over-indulge in lawful food at the time of breaking Fast, to the point of stuffing one's belly. There is no receptacle more odious to God, Great and Glorious is He, than a belly stuffed full with lawful food. Of what use is the Fast as a means of conquering God's enemy and abating appetite, if at the time of breaking it one not only makes up for all one has missed during the daytime, but perhaps also indulges in a variety of extra foods? It has even become the custom to stock up for Ramadan with all kinds of foodstuffs, so that more is consumed during that time than in the course of several other months put together. It is well known that the object of Fasting is to experience hunger and to check desire, in order to reinforce the soul in piety. If the stomach is starved from early morning till evening, so that its appetite is aroused and its craving intensified, and it is then offered delicacies and allowed to eat its fill, its taste for pleasure is increased and its force exaggerated; passions are activated which would have lain dormant under normal conditions.

The spirit and secret nature of Fasting is to weaken the forces which are Satan's means of leading us back to evil. It is therefore essential to cut down one's intake to what one would consume on a normal night, when not Fasting. No benefit is derived from the Fast if one consumes as much as one would usually take during the day and night combined. Moreover, one of the properties consists in taking little sleep during the daytime, so that one feels the hunger and thirst and becomes conscious of the weakening of one's powers, with the consequent purification of the heart.

One should let a certain degree of weakness carry over into the night, making it easier to perform the night Prayers (tahajjud) and to recite the praises (awrad). It may then be that Satan will not hover around one's heart, and that one will behold the Kingdom of Heaven. The Night of Destiny represents the night on which something of this Kingdom is revealed. This is what is meant by the words of God, Exalted is He:

'We surely revealed it on the Night of Power.' [al-Qadr, 97:1]

Anyone who puts a bag of food between his heart and his breast becomes blind to this revelation. Nor is keeping the stomach empty sufficient to remove the veil, unless one also empties the mind of everything but God, Great and Glorious is He. That is the entire matter, and the starting point of it all is cutting down on food.

6. LOOK TO GOD WITH FEAR AND HOPE

After the Fast has been broken, the heart should swing like a pendulum between fear and hope. For one does not know if one's Fast will be accepted, so that one will find favor with God, or whether it will be rejected, leaving one among those He abhors. This is how one should be at the end of any act of worship one performs.

It is related of al-Hasan ibn Abil Hasan al-Basri that he once passed by a group of people who were laughing merrily. He said: 'God, Great and Glorious is He, has made the month of Ramadan a racecourse, on which His creatures compete in His worship. Some have come in first and won, while others have lagged behind and lost. It is absolutely amazing to find anybody laughing and playing about on the day when success attends the victors, and failure the wasters. By God, if the veil were lifted off, the doer of good would surely be preoccupied with his good works and the evildoer with his evil deeds.' In too full of joy to indulge in idle sport, while for one who has suffered rejection laughter will be precluded by remorse.

Of al-Ahnaf ibn Qays it is reported that he was once told: 'You are an aged elder; Fasting would enfeeble you.' But he replied: 'By this I am making ready for a long journey, Obedience to God, Glorified is He, is easier to endure than His punishment.'

Such are the inwardly significant meanings of Fasting.

Aziz Must Show Proof Who Is Leaving Pakatan Rakyat

ALOR SETAR, Sept 7 (Bernama) -- The Kedah PAS Youth movement wants Umno Kulim/Bandar Bharu chief Datuk Abdul Aziz Sheikh Fadzir to show proof that several more Pakatan Rakyat assemblymen would leave the party.
Its chief, Ahmad Yahya, said Abdul Aziz had created confusion and doubt among the people in the state when he said he knew several more assemblymen, especially from PAS, would leave the party.
"His statement makes us wonder whether the so-called assemblymen whom he claimed would leave the party, are either being bribed or forced by BN (Barisan Nasional) to do so," he said when met after lodging a police report against Abdul Aziz's statement here on Monday.
Ahmad was commenting on Abdul Aziz's statement in a Malay newspaper on Sunday, that he was confident that several more people would follow Lunas assemblyman Muhammad Radzhi Salleh's footsteps to leave the party and became independent.

tunku : last year this time around everyone was eagerly waiting for a bomb to explode by anwar on the 16th of september 2008 which at the end did not explode.may be during september rumours of the state assemblyman/member of parliaments hopping will be a trend thanks to the melodrama moron queen.from the statement above i wonder why a ruling party members want to jump the ship? may be the ship is sinking....Allah know best.

Reflecting on Our Roles in Ramadan

RAMADAN is the time of year in which we engage in a month-long process of introspection, repentance, and self-renewal. It is not only a time when we are to increase our commitment to performing various acts of worship such as fasting and prayer, but it should also be a time for reevaluating all aspects of our lives. As Muslims men, this process should include room for assessing our performance as both husbands and fathers.
For most people around the world, these are indeed strange and trying times. For Muslims, not much else needs to be said along these lines. Perhaps it is only knowing that this world is the realm of testing and that in one way or another in our lifetimes we will all be tested, that allows us to get up every day and face the outside world. For many family men, however, rigor and severity are not a reality only on the outside, but inside the home as well. For such individuals and their families, the abode of peace that the home is supposed to be is anything but that and many such families are living quiet lives of sadness, desperation, and rancor due to family relationships that are simply not working. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in a very well-known Hadith was recorded as saying that marriage was equal to half of the deen [of Islam]. This profound statement by our master has spurred volumes of scholarly commentary over the centuries and from a layman s perspective, the Hadith is monumental in its meaning and importance for those who have embraced the way of marriage and family. Only through deep reflection on our lives as husbands and fathers can we begin to understand the essence of the Messenger s (peace be upon him) words and why marriage is awarded the weight of half of our faith as Muslims.
The life partnership and commitment that marriage entail should be approached as a spiritual undertaking that can be an important facilitator of individual spiritual development. Just as we are essentially spiritual beings in a human existence, marriage is a journey that if approached as such can be a rich source of learning and personal development for both spouses. As Muslim men, much of what we are taught about family life pertains to our roles and responsibilities as husbands, i.e. the X s and O s of marriage and family life. However, too often the spirit of marriage is ignored or missed. Too often, in the course of trying to manage our families, we completely overlook the nuances that make marriage and family so important a human experience. Often we overlook the patience, sacrifice, compromise, love, understanding, humility, strength, and so many other inputs that are needed to be a good husband and father.
These are the fruits of the dedication and hard work that go into family life that help us to develop into better and more universal human beings. Though certainly there is no magic formula for achieving a successful marriage and family life, selflessness, love, and service are a few key principles from the teachings of our tradition that, when applied, can have remarkable transformational qualities on our roles as husbands and fathers and subsequently, our families in general.
Giving without expectation of reward
One of the most important themes in the life of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the notion of meeting the needs and fulfilling the rights of others without any expectation of reciprocity. It is well-known that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) actively participated in household duties such as sewing, cooking, serving his guests and cleaning. The modern world often teaches us to expect reward for our work, time and efforts. Even as Muslims, it often seems as though we take these same expectations into our home lives. It is common to hear about Muslim husbands and fathers demanding to be treated like kings in their homes with their wives and children expected to act like servants rather than loved ones.
This phenomenon, despite going against the spirit of love and service that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) brought to the world, has many negative effects on families. For one, the distant father syndrome prevents children from fulfilling their divine role as a source of love and inspiration to their parents. As is commonly understood from the famous Hadith that all children are born in a state of Islam. Our scholars have told us that the greater meaning of this Hadith is that children come into this world pure and it is only what they learn from their parents and societies ( i.e. the world) that turn them away from this pure state. This purity of heart means that they are essentially beacons of mercy and love, a reminder of the endless blessings of the All-Merciful.
However, the distant father, the one who would be king in his own home and God-knows-what outside of it, himself a product of rejection, is not open to this divine blessing sent in the form of his children. The child, in turn, learns rejection early on and internalizes it, eventually manifesting his frustration in a multitude of ways including acting out, rebelliousness, mental illness, oppression, or simply the inability to open up to others the feeling of separation that typically goes hand in hand with illnesses such as depression and severe anxiety.

What is MCA formula?

by Awang (Utusan)
Like others, Awang hopes MCA will emerge quickly from its quagmire following the dismissal of its deputy president, Chua Soi Lek.
Soi Lek’s removal has become a controversy. On the one hand, Awang agrees on his sacking to protect the image of the party. But the
question is why now after he rose to become deputy president from vice-president after being chosen by the delegates at the MCA’s
elections.
It is not the first time MCA is embroiled in a political row. The party had endured it a few times before including the worst crisis ever during the in-fighting between Neo Yee Pan and Tan Koon Swan almost two decades ago.
In the latest episode, MCA President Ong Tee Keat’s position looks shaky. He is seen to be losing grip of the party. His image is affected as he is linked to the scandal-ridden Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ). If the Transport Minister portrays confidence, able to garner tremendous support quickly and get the backing of most of MCA leaders, he will pass the hurdle.
Awang is confident that MCA will regain its strength but what is the formula? Among them might be enlisting a mediator besides sorting things out at the extraordinary general meeting or reviewing the decision to sack Soi Lek. But to withdraw the decision is unwise and will open a floodgate to the opposition to exploit the issue.
So if all these formulas will not work, the last resort to salvage MCA is for both leaders - Tee Keat and Soi Lek to step down. Are they willing to do so?

tunku : soi lek and tee kiat should kiss and say goodbye to their post and position.the president committee should nullified their decision to sacked soi lek.the fight has become personal between them.both of them have to quit.this is the only solution we can see for MCA right now.
