Umno Youth To Focus On Election Preparations At Assembly

SEREMBAN, Oct 28 (Bernama) -- Umno Youth will beef up its preparations for the next general election at the party's general assembly, scheduled next week, to ensure a bigger win for the Barisan Nasional (BN).
Its deputy chief Khairy Jamaluddin said Umno Youth chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein would focus on the movement's preparations for the general election in his policy speech at the assembly.
The movement would also take the opportunity to debate on some of the successes achieved in the past five years for the benefit of the second echelon leaders, he told reporters after attending a workshop on the National Agriculture Convention 2007, where he was one of the panel members, here today.
He said Umno Youth had succeeded in building a strong and united movement under Hishammuddin's leadership.
"I hope delegates will not raise issues that touch on racial and religious sensitivities.
"We have to be cautious, not to be over-zealous, as we have to consider the sensitivities of other races while championing the Malay agenda.
"There are ways in which we can deliver our message in pursuing our agenda without hurting the feelings of others.
"We cannot use the Malay agenda as an excuse because the BN represents all the people," he said.
Khairy expects issues on agriculture to be the main topic when discussing the economy at the assembly.
"I hope the discussion will focus on specific measures for Umno to forward to the government to develop the agriculture sector, especially in the economic development corridors," he said.

tunku : what kayjay is not telling is the government is in dilemma right now whether to call for early election or just wait till it terms expires.early election will means that anwar would not be able to contest but with the rising of goods price especially early next year where petrol, toll etc prices would increase. for sure the opposition will bank on this issue as their top priority to fight the government in the next general election.as for anwar factor, i guess if the government thinks that he is a threat then they're STUPID as anwar is FINISHED.he's no longer a threat but more to a clown nowadays.Abdullah "will likely want to capitalise on improving economic sentiments and recent by-election successes of the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition" and go to the polls sooner than later. But many believe that the modest inflation figures do not reflect reality. As consumers feel the pinch from high costs and stagnant wages, they add, there is a growing sense that prosperity is on the decline."The headline numbers look strong but our feedback is that on the ground, people are not happy. A lot of consumer items may not be captured by the CPI.
