Johari's RM5million Allegation - As expected
ACA Probe Against Johari Baharum Closed, Says A-G
PUTRAJAYA, July 11 (Bernama) -- Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail has ordered the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) investigation against Deputy Internal Security Minister Datuk Johari Baharum closed.
The decision was made as there was no statement to link Johari who was said to have received RM5 million for releasing several criminals detained under the Emergency Ordinance 1969, said an Attorney-General Department statement issued to BERNAMA here today.
Gani said the ACA opened five investigation papers after receiving information on the matter on March 5.
Statements were recorded from criminals detained under the ordinance and related statements of accounts were also scrutinised.
"For the three investigation papers, the ACA investigation found that the said criminals had denied giving Datuk Johari Baharum money as bribe.
"Two other investigation papers opened showed that several of the criminals who are important witnesses could not be traced after their release," said Gani.
The ACA investigation which was based on witnesses and documents found no statement that could link Johari to corruption.
"As such, the Attorney-General has ordered that the ACA investigation involving the five investigation papers opened against Datuk Johari Baharum be closed."
Gani said the ACA investigation took some time as statements of accounts had to be analysed and that statements had to be taken from relevant witnesses.
Tracing the witnesses also took some time while several could not be found.
Johari had denied claims that he was involved in corruption.
"I'm Thankful Truth Is On My Side," Says Johari Baharum
KUALA LUMPUR, July 11 (Bernama) -- Deputy Internal Security Minister Datuk Mohd Johari Baharum said he is thankful to God that truth is on his side after going through a very difficult time while his case was being investigated.
Commenting on the statement by Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail who asked the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) to close the investigation on him, Mohd Johari said he had placed his trust on the truth and that was why he was not afraid about the investigation and had always cooperated with the ACA.
In a statement issued by the Attorney-General's Chambers today, Abdul Gani said there was no statement to implicate Johari who was said to have received RM5 million for releasing several criminals detained under the Emergency Ordinance 1969.
"The allegation had tarnished my credibility as a Deputy Minister of a ministry headed by the Prime Minister and it was the most difficult period in my career and life especially when facing the family, society and friends," he said when contacted by Bernama.
He said that as a result of the allegation, his wife, who is a teacher, had to take no-pay leave for six months while his children and other family members had to bear the shame.
Following the decision that cleared him of the allegation, Mohd Johari pledged that he would discharge his responsibility with greater commitment.
"Now I can work in peace... furthermore there are numerous issues in my ministry that needs attention," he added.
tunku : it is expected decision,i guess johari if innocent should had not worried at all adn always work in peace, not waiting till the AG's decision that there is no case against him.if you had done nothing wrong, why worry from the first place? after the kubang pasu verdict, this is nothing new. but johari now is going after the IGP.
