Astro to raise subscription fees
KUALA LUMPUR: Astro All Asia Networks Plc (Astro) will raise monthly subscription fees, the television company said on Friday.
For existing customers the hike will be from June while for new customers the increase would be with immediate effect.
Astro, however, said it will give more package options.
The rise of about RM5 to RM10 is because of rising costs, including for programmes, it said.
Astro expects revenue to rise by 15% on an annualised basis.
Astro is largely owned by T. Ananda Krishnan, who is reported to be Malaysia's second wealthiest man.
Maxis Communications Berhad, a mobile phone operator is also largely owned by him and on Thursday Maxis said it is going to be privatised.
Ananda Krishnan is offering RM15.60 a share to buy out minority shareholders in Maxis.
The cash offer for the remaining 41% stake he does not own is 20% higher than the last traded price of RM13 in Malaysia’s leading cellular company.
