BN Attacks Opposition Manifesto

KUCHING, April 9 (Bernama) -- With six days of campaigning left in the state's hottest ever state election, the opposition's manifesto provided plenty of fodder for the Barisan Nasional (BN) today.
The DAP also became the latest to pressure lawyer Dominique Ng to withdraw his bid to stand as an independent in the three-cornered battle for the Chinese-majority Padungan seat, here.
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, the BN deputy chairman, urged the people not to be deceived by the promises made by the opposition.
"We cannot gamble away our future just by listening to them, they promise the moon and the sun...this is not a joke...this concerns the future of our children," he said while shoring up the BN campaign in Bintulu.
Pointing to the opposition's promise to set up a RM1 billion state poverty eradication fund, he said the BN had spent tens of billions of ringgit to slash poverty in Sarawak to a mere three per cent compared to 60 to 70 per cent 20 years ago.
Muhyiddin, who is also the Education Minister, singled out the opposition's bait to give RM200 to every child who started primary one education.
"I ask why give the allowance to the people of Sarawak only, they have already formed the government in Selangor, Kelantan, Penang but they never give a single sen...it's a lie!" he said.
Meanwhile, DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang asked Ng to heed the call by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Datin Seri Wan Azizah Ismail to withdraw his bid.
In a statement Saturday, Lim said Ng had no possibility of winning and his presence could cause a split in votes in favour of the BN candidate Sim Kiang Chiok from the Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP).
The DAP is fielding first timer Wong King Wei in Padungan.
Ng had won Padungan in 2006 as a PKR candidate but he was left out by the PKR this time. The PKR swapped Padungan for Batu Lintang with the PKR.
But the 50-year-old lawyer is not budging and instead is confident he would not finish at the bottom or he would quit politics.
Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohmad Salleh today asked political parties to avoid provocative actions, and campaign without jeopardising security and public order.
He said police had received a report that the poster of the BN candidate for Padungan was defaced by red paint.

tunku : the opposition must prove what they have done in kelantan, kedah, penang and selangor. they should have implemented all those promises in their manifesto in those states or else do not BS to the maximum.the sarawakian should be careful with these liars promises as they can promise moon and sky because they know they will not rule the state.so promises to them is nothing.
