Step down now, Mugilan urges Samy Vellu

PETALING JAYA: MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu should step down now instead of next year, so that other leaders have a chance to lead the party, said party deputy Youth chief V. Mugilan.
He said party delegates, members and the Indian community had grown weary of Samy Vellu's promises to step down over time.
"I have lost confidence in the president, just as he (Samy Vellu) lost confidence in the previous party president," he said at a press conference on Wednesday, adding that Samy Vellu had also played a role in asking former president Tun V.T. Sambanthan to step down.
Mugilan said the party now wanted change and transformation, after being led by Samy Vellu for 31 years.
He said he was afraid the party would collapse if it did not change, despite the clear message from party leaders and members, and the Indian community, for a new president to helm the MIC.
"We need to reform the party. We will lose in the next general election if the party is still under the leadership of Samy Vellu," Mugilan said, adding that he expected the next polls to be held in 2011.
On Tuesday, Samy Vellu announced that he would hand over the party's reins "eight or nine months" before his current term expired in May, 2012.

tunku : if possible this crazy old man wants to be the president till he dies.it is not easy for a greedy person like samy vellu to step down. though he knows majority of Indians dislike him, he is still very much stubborn and act like a gangster leader in MIC.why wait till september next year, the party new president need time to gain strength for the next GE.he should quit now and let the successor lead the party.if he really wants to help, he can still help without being a president.he can go and meet the people at his pleasure. this shows that he is not sincere and a power crazy old man.MIC members must put more pressure on the crazy old man to quit asap. act now before it's too late.

Dear Tunku,

You are wrong. He will not be satisfied to rule MIC until he dies. He is making preperations to run it from his grave by making sure that one of his own will takeover from him. Ramalx
