KUALA LUMPUR: Children and family should be left out of politics and family matters should not be exploited for one's own political gains, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
“You can debate about differences of policies in terms of weaknesses and implementation but you leave family aside,” he said on Sunday at a press conference after attending a gathering with retired and former police officers.
Najib was answering a question on whether children should be left out of politics given the attacks against Lim Guan Eng's son, whom some bloggers had alleged that he had molested a schoolmate.
Najib added that politicians from both sides of the divide must adhere to the ethics of excluding families from politics.
“Everyone should adhere to it including the Opposition. That is the ideal in a modern democracy to concentrate on policy matters.
“We have to agree to certain ethics. It works both ways. I am not saying about the facts of this case. I do not know about the facts of this case,” he added.
tunku : the oppositions have been targeting the BN leaders family from day one and now when they are the victim they cry like babies. as pm said, we have to agree to certain ethics in politics and it should work both ways, not only to the opposition but also to the ruling party.the opposition only debate about differences of policies in terms of weaknesses and implementation about 20% and the rest they attack on personal matters including the family.they should change themselves first before accusing others.
