KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 17 (Bernama) -- The proposed formulation of the Apostasy Act has to be looked into comprehensively at the state and federal levels before it can be carried out, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom.
He said before the law could be formulated, it has to be referred to the state first because Islamic matters come under the jurisdiction of the sultan.
"This (Apostasy) act has to be referred to the state first. Whether it is to be implemented or not depends on the state," he told reporters at a media conference here. He was commenting on a proposal by Perak Mufti Tan Sri Harunussaini Zakaria recently for the formulation of an Apostasy Act to punish individuals who were guilty of converting Muslims.
On Malaysian haj pilgrims in Mecca having problems to withdraw their money from Tabung Haji, Jamil Khir said it was due to measures taken by the Saudi Arabia government in restricting the amount of withdrawal to prevent money laundering.
"We will discuss with the Saudi Arabia government to resolve the problem," he added.
tunku : let's get it done asap.this is a very urgent issue that should be solved once and for all. by the way lets join "Himpunan Sejuta Umat" to show support for anti apostasy on 22nd October at Shah Alam stadium.may you be from umno, pas or pkr let us join hand in hand as muslim to show our unity against apostasy.
