SHAH ALAM, Oct 10 (Bernama) -- The Sultan of Selangor said he was satisfied to find that the State Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) had acted rightly and within its jurisdiction when carrying out investigation at the Dream Centre in Petaling Jaya on Aug 3.
Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah said he had studied the JAIS report on the investigation conducted during a thanksgiving dinner at the church premises and after obtaining advice from religious and legal experts, he agreed that no legal action be taken against any quarters.
The Sultan said JAIS' jurisdiction was provided under the Selangor Syariah Criminal Procedure Enactment 2003, Selangor Syariah Criminal Enactment 1995 and Selangor Non-Islamic Religion (Control of Propagation Among Muslims) Enactment 1988.
"In reference to the JAIS investigation, there were evidence of attempts to proselytise Muslims. But the evidence obtained were insufficient to institute legal action," the ruler said in a statement issued by the Office of the Selangor Sultan, here, Monday.
Sultan Sharafuddin also instructed JAIS to provide counselling to the Muslims who attended the dinner function so as to restore their faith and belief in Islam.
He also asked JAIS to carry out Islamic propagation activities for Muslims with more frequency and systematically to ensure their faith in Islam would prevail and deepen.
Sultan Sharafuddin said as head of religion in Selangor, he was concerned and hurt by the efforts of certain quarters to weaken the faith of Muslims in Islam.
"I want the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) and JAIS to monitor the situation closely and not hesitate to take appropriate action as provided by law.
"I really hope that after this, any current activity to preach other religions to Muslims in Selangor will stop immediately, and there be no such activity in future.
"I also hope the people of Selangor, regardless of race and religion, will not wrongly assume and dispute JAIS' action without clearly knowing the facts of the matter," the Sultan said.
Sultan Sharafuddin said Islam as practised in Selangor was tolerant and Muslims were always encouraged to respect other religions.
"However, no quarters should take advantage of the situation to preach other religions to Muslims. This is in line with Clause (1) and (4), Article 11 of the Federal Constitution and Selangor Non-Muslim Religion (Control of Propagation Among Muslims) Enactment 1988, which forbid preaching of other religions to Muslims."
The Sultan also noted that Article XLVII of the Selangor State Constitution 1959, Clause (1) of Article 3 and Clause (1) of Article 11 in the Federal Constitution provide the freedom for people of other faiths to practise their religion in peace.
"That religious freedom has been practised in Selangor in a harmonious atmosphere and I hope this long-standing harmony will remain.
"The people of other faiths should take care of their own religion and should never try to deviate the understanding and faith of Muslims in Islam," the Sultan said.
tunku : so it is confirmed that Dream Centre in PJ tried to deviate the faith of those Muslims.all the states religion department should monitor these type of centers.they had crossed the line.
