KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- The government has started discussions with four government-linked corporations (GLC) as the first step to developing Kampong Baru following the approval of the Kampong Baru Development Corporation 2011 Bill Wednesday.
Minister of Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin said he would meet Lembaga Tabung Haji, Permodalan Nasional Berhad, Putrajaya Holding and Permodalan Hartanah Berhad soonest possible.
"We have commenced discussions with them before and after this, we will proceed to talk about development," he told reporters at the Parliament lobby.
Raja Nong Chik said the infrastructure development project in the area at a cost of RM8.9 million had already started.
On the status of land owners and inheritors of Kampong Baru, he said the Valuation and Property Services Department under the Ministry of Finance would be carrying out valuation on the land value.
According to him, when the Kampong Baru Development Corporation was set up, the status of land in the area would be changed to City Centre Commercial (CCC) status which would be equivalent to the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) area.
"Even though the status will upgraded for development, the interest of owners and inheritors of land will continue to be protected and preserved with affordable prices to maintain the interest of the original residents," he said.
tunku : lets develop kampung baru as an international business and retail centre for the bumis only. no one should question this as there are petaling street which is known as china town and in brickfields known as little india. lets have kampung baru for the bumis. hope there will be no "ali baba" business there in the future.
