Nong Chik: RM10 Million Overhead Bridge Is KLCC Project
KUALA LUMPUR, 11 Feb (Bernama) -- The RM10 million pedestrian bridge linking the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre to the KLCC Impiana Hotel is not a government project.
The cost of building the 153 metre bridge is borne fully by the Petronas subsidiary, KLCC (Holdings) Sdn Bhd, the Federal Territory and Urban Wellbeing Minister, Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abdidin, clarified today.
The government is not at all involved in the project, and neither is he or the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, Raja Nong Chik said in a statement.
"The appointment of the contractor was by rigorous tender and 100 per cent handled by the KLCC," he said.
The pedestrian bridge, which would be air-conditioned and have escalators and lifts for senior citizens and disabled people along with security features such as CCTV, was being built as a corporate social responsibility, he said.
As such, the allegation by Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar that the project cost too much and was a waste of money was baseless, Raja Nong Chik said.
Nurul had also asked whether the contractor had been appointed by open tender.
Raja Nong Chik had said the bridge was the first phase in the overall project of building 12km of pedestrian bridges to link all major roads in Kuala Lumpur to public transport stations.
tunku : she had questioned why the bridge cost is so high etc.by right as a responsible mp,she should had find out what materials will be used or what type of bridge it is before making fuss about the construction cost.it is a bridge with escalators, lifts, air conditioners and covered.so what does she expect the cost will be? 7000-8000 per meter? now raja nong chik has revealed that it is not the government money,so i guess nurul will shut her mouth and concentrate to help the people rather than talking on issues without knowing the facts.

what do you expect, 1st time MP, how old is she again? Coming from PR, politicize first, facts later...who's that guy taking about Chinese gun boats costing to much...PR expert at everything..contribute nothing.
Nurul Izzah, Look before you leap.
Ask her to question PAS exco in Selangor spending RK165k to organize reading program by the lake for kids!!
Government contracts have become a scandalous source of corruption. WE must be careful. Like an individual household once you expenditure exceeds your income then you become a potential candidate for bankruptcy. And Malaysia accoring to Treasury figures has been running a deficit budget for 46 years. YB Nurul may be young but that does not me a person, who is 50 years old and who has taken more salt then she has taken rice, more claver than her.
in this case it is not government expenditure and even selangor under her father advisory has been in deficit since they took over.
Anon 3;26,
You have knocked me down with your retort.
These days most of us are suspicious of government contracts.
The tourism ministry spent RM 150,000 for two arches at the entrance of the Penang Botanical Gardens. One tilted. Both were knocked down within minutes. Reported cost RM 60,000 to bring them down. Dust has settled and everything forgotten.
Most of the time we smell something not right. But many of us are not politicians, so we do not politicise
@CPL, if both the arches are knocked down within minutes after they were erected; do you think the government will pay the contractors for their lousy job. I believed you are exaggerating so that people will believe your fairy tales.
