CHANGLUN, Feb 24 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin wants firm police action against a group calling itself Hindraf which is reported to be trying to hold a mass rally this Sunday.He said that Hindraf, the Hindu Rights Action Force, had been banned and using or championing its name was in itself an offence.
"They (planners) know that they would need permission from the police (for such a rally)," he told reporters here.
Muhyiddin said it was up to police to "shape" the action to be taken, but they have to be firm against such activity as a rally by a banned organisation.
"If they act outside the law and disregard regulations, holding rallies and the like ... stern action should be taken," Muhyiddin said.
He added that any attempt to revive a banned organisation must be viewed seriously.
In KUALA LUMPUR, Police said the planned gathering did not have a permit.
Kuala Lumpur police in statement said an application for the permit filed at the Dang Wangi police station was turned down on security grounds.
The gathering could affect public order and cause traffic congestion, the statement said, adding that the organisers had been notified the the planned assembly was not approved.

Tunku , Dont hope for menteri Amaran hishamudin lembik to bertindak. The whole powerbase from minister to KSU is about warning/amaran.
If you have banned a organisation on the street or planning it, nip it. Act on it when the organisers try to revive it. No need to wait for DPM or anyone to prompt you.
Dont wait for an uprising. Dont give excuses. Otherwise m dear minister and your senior officers, please resign. Your job is not about being popular. If you want popularity then exchange position with the equally useles minister rais yatim.
Rais only wants to bodek the Pm and rais himself and their wives. There is no strategy or thought put into what they should be doing for UMNO and BN and on providing good effective coverage for other ministers and leaders. UMNO and BN is not just about the Pm and wife and rais and wife.
Rais have effectively blotted out the existence of other leadership. Giving UMNO and BN image of a lameduck. Rais and his people have failed to exploit and impress on the communities the existence of and some effective changes that have been continually been provided for the people.
He will probably wait close to elections and will get rtm mouthpieces to mouth them off killling us with high dosages of boredom.
So in the case of hindraf- have rtm effectively followed up by showing that this is abanned organisation, why they were banned and what provocation they have done that it requires the menteri amaran to act? NO. He waits until people are angry and upset then only he will put the rtm stooges to unconvincingly explain. Instead of being uselful you canw atch and see how he will successfully amke peope angry. He would do this all the time!
Its the same with other issues that need prompt and intelligent sharp response form rtm. Its futile to expect rais to think in bigger picture apart from shallow approach of distributing netbook laptop. Its the attitude of givng away lollipops and gula gula t buy favours. How so behind time is that! Might as well given them the cash , bec the netbook will be sold anyway after 1 month at elast.
