Sultan regrets manipulation of his statements

SHAH ALAM: Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah regrets that his statements have been manipulated by certain quarters and reiterated that he is apolitical.
He said there was no need to politicise and sensationalise the appointment of the state secretary and that the appointment was lawful.
The Sultan was speaking after new Selangor State Secretary Datuk Mohd Khusrin Munawi took his oath of loyalty at Istana Bukit Kayangan here Thursday.
In his address, the Sultan said he had told state exco members on Dec 5, when they attended an event commemorating his birthday, that he was apolitical.
"My only intent is to see Selangor, which I love, always peaceful, and that its multiracial and multi-religious community live in harmony and close cooperation with each other."
He also said Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim has a regular audience with him and that during these sessions, they often exchanged opinions and discussed issues for the betterment of the state.
"I want the people of Selangor to enjoy the state's wealth collectively, as well as obtain whatever they need in their daily lives.
"Given this, if Selangor is peaceful and all parties carry their responsibilities honestly and with commitment, the development and progress achieved can be truly enjoyed by the people."
Sultan Sharafuddin urged and advised not to politicise the appointment of the state secretary as this would only burden the people and delay progress.
The Sultan also congratulated Mohd Khusrin on his appointment as the new state secretary.
"I would like to stress that the appointment of the Selangor state secretary was done according to the rules and procedures enshrined in the state and federal constitutions.
"I hope the new state secretary will be able to carry out his duties and responsibilities well."
He instructed all civil servants in Selangor to cooperate with Mohd Khusrin so that the state administration would run smoothly.
Sultan Sharafuddin also instructed Mohd Khusrin to execute state policies by the government of the day in accordance with the current rules and regulations.
tunku : when the Ruler himself has said that he had consented and approved the appointment of khusrin why would this moron want to go against it? furthermore the appointment of khusrin is lawful.the appointment need not be referred to the menteri besar as clause 1 and 2 of article 52 stipulated that it must be done by a relevant commission(that is SPA), and the appointee must be a Muslim and Malay.i guess that is why the dap is asking khalid to bring it to the assembly so that they could change the rule where dap can put up their candidate for the post.

Ruler's Consent Still Necessary, Says Dr Mahathir

SHAH ALAM, Jan 6 (Bernama) -- The PKR-led Selangor government has still to obtain the consent of the Sultan of Selangor even after it amends the state constitution to revert authority to the sultan and menteri besar in the appointment of the state's top three civil servants, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said.
He said the matter would eventually depend on whether the state government obtained the signature of the sultan or otherwise because without the signature and consent of the sultan, the amendment would not become law.
"The Selangor government requires a two-third majority in the state assembly session to amend the constitution. I do not know whether they will obtain the two-third majority," he told reporters after delivering a keynote address at seminar on unity at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), here.
Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim had said that the state government would convene an emergency session of the state assembly to amend the state constitution to revert to the sultan and the menteri besar the authority to appoint the state's top three civil servants, namely the state secretary, state legal advisor and state financial officer.
The appointment of Mohd Khusrin Munawi, 54, as the new state secretary was disputed by Abdul Khalid because he was allegedly not consulted over the appointment.
Dr Mahathir also said that he felt that it was not necessary to call the next general election soon although there were what could be regarded as political indicators of impending elections of late.

tunku : whatever they do they must face the Sultan and get his consent.i just don't understand with what face is khalid going to face the Sultan after going against the Sultan's choice? furthermore they don't have 2/3 majority.so what drama are they playing right now?
