415 Traders Urge Nik Aziz To Keep Election Promise

KOTA BAHARU, Jan 20 (Bernama) -- Four hundred and fifteen traders at the Lambok Uda Arcade and Municipal Council markets here are asking Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat to keep his election promise of moving them to the Tok Guru Bazaar.
Chairman of the association traders at the old municipal market Abd Salim Ahmad said the traders now had to turn to Kelantan Umno liaison chief Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed for help to solve their problem.
"During the (2008) general election, they (PAS) promised to help traders like us improve our business. They promised to set aside shopping lots we could afford," he told reporters here after an hour-long meeting with Mustapa.
The Kelantan Mentri Besar Corporation was reported to have promised the traders shopping lots at RM40,000 each at Tok Guru Bazaar.
But the lots they were offered, said Abd Salim, were much smaller than promised and cost between RM80,000 and RM90,000.
Mustapa, who is Minister of International Trade and Industry, had last Sunday asked the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate why the lots were costing so much.
Today, he said that he would write to the Mentri Besar this week and try to find a solution to the problem of the traders.
The Tok Guru Bazaar is a business complex built on two hectares formerly occupied by the Kota Baharu district police office.
