KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 16 (Bernama) -- The Parent Action Group for Education (Page) plan to submit a memorandum to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Wednesday, calling for all national schools to be given an option to continue teaching Science and Mathematics in English.
Its chairman Datin Noor Azimah Abdul Rahim said the memorandum would highlight the main points discussed at the three forums entitled "A Discourse on Malaysia Education Policies - Science and Math in English as an Option" held in Penang, Melaka and Kuala Lumpur since last week.
She said the group was not against national schools but only wanted to ensure that school children were given the best possible education and taught in the most appropriate language.
"We are not against the policy of upholding the Bahasa Malaysia and strengthening the command of English. We just want schools to be given the option," said Noor Azimah, one of the panelists at the third forum organised by the group, here Sunday.
Noor Azimah said Page was also seeking the support of parents who were all for Mathematics and Science in English (PPSMI).
"We urge all parents in Malaysia to sign up as our members and with larger numbers, our presence and collective positions can be a significant contributing factor towards the formulation and implementation of all the future educational related policies in Malaysia," she said.
The PPSMI will be replaced by the policy of dignifying Bahasa Melayu and strengthening English language usage or "Memartabatkan Bahasa Melayu dan Memperkasakan Bahasa Inggeris" (MBMBI) in 2011.
