Bread Price Increase Reasonable, Says Shafie
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 3 (Bernama) -- The increase in the price of bread by between 10 sen and 30 sen, which began Thursday, is not burdensome to the people, said Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Mohamed Shafie Apdal.
He said the decision to allow the increase was fair as 70 per cent of the cost of bread manufacturers was for importing multipurpose wheat flour.
"They (manufacturers) wanted a higher increase but the ministry only allowed them to do so up to 30 sen," he told reporters after hosting a dinner for the Umno Overseas Club here tonight.
Following the hike, large-sized bread is being sold at RM2.90 each from RM2.60 previously while the small-sized ones now sell at RM2.10, up 30 sen.
tunku : well we have to accept the price increase as we the consumers are always on the losing side, the government favourite word will be "the price increase is reasonable" and "it won't burden the public".
