Tun Dr M stable after 2nd bypass
KUALA LUMPUR: Former PM Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is in stable condition after undergoing a five-hour coronary bypass surgery at the National Heart Institute (IJN) Tuesday.
He is warded at the Intensive Care Unit for post-operation observation.
" We are all very happy and everything went according to plan," his daughter Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir said.
Marina said her family was grateful that the operation went smoothly and that her father was better prepared for the second bypass.
"We want to thank Malaysians of all races and religions for their prayers and wishes sent by SMS and emails," she said.
A team headed by cardiac surgeon, Tan Sri Dr Yahya Awang carried out the bypass surgery, which started at 9.40am and ended at 3.05pm.
Dr Mahathir, 82, underwent his first coronary bypass at the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital on Jan 24, 1989, after suffering a heart attack.
