MTUC Asks Deputy Minister To Withdraw Statement

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 2 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) today asked Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Bakar to withdraw a statement the latter had made in Parliament in reference to unions.
MTUC president Syed Shahir Syed Mohamud said the union also wanted Abdul Rahman to apologise to all workers in the country.
He was referring to a warning issued by Abdul Rahman in the Dewan Rakyat on Wednesday that the ministry would deregister the MTUC and other unions if they became tools of the opposition to overthrow the government.
Abdul Rahman had referred to the MTUC's pickets on June 25 and Aug 8 at 15 locations and had claimed that these were masterminded by leaders from the opposition.
Syed Shahir stressed that the MTUC was not a political body subservient to any political party but an organisation which championed the rights of workers and their families. He said one of its objectives was to raise the living standard of workers and their families.
Syed Shahir said Abdul Rahman's association of the MTUC with political parties, whether ruling or opposition, was an unfounded and excessive accusation, and it was most upsetting.

tunku : well syed shahir, just show to them during the next election.they are there because of us and if they try to scratch our back ,we'll scratch their back too.this is mtuc pledges to the government and the government is not doing enough for them.the opposition is taking advantage of this situation so don't blame the mtuc are back by the opposition. mtuc knows well that the opposition can't help them and useless to them.
