Pahang Sultan Retains FAM Presidency, Khairy Among Five New Faces In Council

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 9 (Bernama) -- Sultan Ahmad Shah of Pahang was returned as president of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) at the council's elections today which saw Umno Youth Deputy Chief Khairy Jamaluddin among the five new faces voted in for the 2007-2010 term.
Khairy, who initiated the MyTeam reality TV show which developed into a serious endeavour, was elected unopposed as one of the two deputy presidents. He takes over the slot vacated in July by the Tengku Mahkota of Pahang, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.
The other post of deputy president was retained by incumbent Datuk Redzuan Sheikh Ahmad who was returned unopposed.
The other four new faces are the vice-presidents -- Datuk Che Mat Jusoh (president of the Terengganu Football Association), Affandi Hamzah (vice-president of the Kelantan Football Association), Ahmad Mohamad (deputy president of the Johor Football Association) and Datuk Gulzar Mohamad (council member of the Sarawak Football Association).
Incumbent Datuk Raja Ahmad Zainuddin Raja Omar of Perak lost in the elections for the posts of vice-president. He garnered only 24 votes. Che Mat drew 45 votes, Affandi 30, Ahmad 28 and Gulzar 26.
Another incumbent vice-president Datuk Anifah Aman gave up the post in keeping with a recent directive from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi prohibiting ministers, deputy ministers and parliamentary secretaries from holding positions in sports associations. Anifah is the Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities.
Meanwhile, Che Mat is tipped to take over as chairman of the FAM Local Competitions Committee, a post hitherto held by Raja Ahmad Zainuddin.
Sultan Ahmad Shah expressed confidence that the new line-up of office-bearers would help inspire excellence in the standard of football in the country.
"I thank the congress for their trust in me and retaining me as the president. The new executive committee will attempt to lift the standard of football to a new level.
"I also extend my congratulations to those who have been elected. I hope they will work hard to raise the standard of football in the country," said the sultan, who has been returned as president since 1984.
The FAM president appoints the association's general secretary.
Replying to a question, Sultan Ahmad Shah said the next FAM Council meeting would discuss the appointment of a candidate to that post.
Khairy, 32, the youngest FAM deputy president to date, said the new executive committee would require some time to rectify weaknesses before it sets out to improve the image of the sport.
"Local football fans must not anticipate an overnight change. We need some time to set things right.
"Furthermore, the most obvious weakness is communication at the grassroots, between the state associations and the FAM," he told reporters at the Menara Kuala Lumpur where the FAM's 44th annual congress was held.

tunku : first time in malaysia history that a prime minister's son in-law and above the law holds so many top position just because his father in-law is the prime minister.kayjay had resigned his post in FAM earlier( i don't know what post) when the FAM was attacked by lots of people. he was a coward then or it is just a drama for him to be the deputy president.it's just because the sultan of pahang is the president otherwise kayjay had been elected as the president.khairy is the youngest indeed to be the deputy president as he is targeting to be the youngest prime minister.he is winning unopposed always. who dares to fight the prime minister's son in-law. GOD SAVE MALAYSIA.

Dear Tengku,

Can you please tell me what's wrong with KJ taking over the Deputy's post.

He plays Polo with Pahang royal family, any Malaysian would use that closeness to get that far. That is why he won unopposed.

KJ is closly associated with football, he likes football, so give him a chance. Let's put this way, Malaysia aren't going to be Asia Cup Champion let alone, World champions until 2060, there for Sea Games looks promising and he might try to place Malaysia in the top 10 in the Asia Region.

His tenure is for 2 years, next election is next April, which by then he will be an MP and Pemuda Chief. The Pemuda Chief grants him a FULL MINISTER post, the question is which portfolio...Education, Defense, Home Ministry or even the Finance Ministry (don't be surprise).

Once he becomes a Minister, then he will resign, so why all this jeolously. Afterall, he is anak melayu glocal....product of mahathir's NEP policy...so be proud of it.

You seems to be pro-Mahathir, fine instead of asking allah for help, ask Dato Mukhriz, what is his next plan in politics.

Yes...he is the only one who can stop KJ...but based on current form Dato Mukhriz is light years behind KJ.

Its destiny and no one can stop Najib becoming 6th PM of Malaysia and only a fool will disagree that Hisamuddin won't be the 7th PM of Malaysia.

KJ will do the same, of what Tun Dr.M did to Hussein Onn...pressure him to resign...he lacks the fitness and fondness to succeed in this political game.

Therefore for the coming UMNO election, Dato Mukhriz, should contest UMNO VP post not Pemuda Cheif post...!!!!!????

Will he take up the challenge...he looks very soft, politically naive, lack entusiasm but does he have enough dough to finance his campaign.

I can write more, if only I can meet Dato Mukhriz, There is a cleaver plan for him to be the 8th PM of Malaysia with ease.

Until Dato Mukhriz, comes out from his hiding, there's no stoping of KJ....

So don't complain and ask GOD to help...its right here.

The football association committee is not about bringing football to a higher level, it is simply about power and glory. All football associations are the same, Malaysia is no different. Sports association are almost identical to politics.

With that background, only elitists can join the gang. You can be the best authority in football, that's not a ticket to Committee-ship. Its what kind of affiliation you have that is important. No wonder the standard of local football has dwindled to a hapless stage.

Everybody knows, KJ is nobody but KJ the menantu is everything. He knows it as well. If he is not the menantu, would anybody want to play polo with him? If he is not the menantu would the biggest shopping mall in the country grant him a shop where hundreds on on the waiting list? If he is not the menantu would people want to start a football reality show? The list goes on, and you get my point.

Wait...bigger things to come. If he is not the menantu, would he have the chance to even smell Rembau? If he is not the menantu, would he be selected as a Minister (I'm writing this before the election, mark my words, he is going to be a Minister, just because....).

Therefore, my opposition or reservations to him becoming a Deputy President of FAM is simply that he has no intention of football development, just the glamour of the association and jest because he is the menantu. One needs to deserved to be in a committee, especially sports. Not to bask in the limelight.

The same goes for all other positions he is and will be holding. Not because he deserves it, but...just because he is...you-know-who.

Oh, one more thing, there is no such thing as a Melayu glocal. There is only Melayu.

malaysia football leaders are RUBBISH. People who never play football can lead the organization...
Look UEFA, the president is the person who had been great player in century....

If malaysia football still leaded by non related (just because you are VIP people) .....malaysia football can go nowhere and will waste lot of people money.

think about it...
