Rafidah's history, criticisms won't affect us, says Nazri

Former Cabinet minister Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz's criticisms will not affect the government and Umno said Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Abdul Aziz.

“She is an ordinary member and we are a democratic party. Let her talk. It is not going to affect us in anyway,” Nazri told The Star Online on Tuesday.

Rafidah has of late been critical of how Umno and the government have been functioning.

Nazri said Rafidah, former International Trade and Industry Minister, "is history," and Wanita Umno had rejected her when they voted in Datuk Seri Shahrizat Jalil as its chief during the wing’s elections in 2009.

Nazri said he had in the past defended Rafidah.

“There is a lot of hypocrisy. The rakyat can see that when they were in the government, they were doing things far from democratic.

"People like us had to defend them. We were trained to always support our leaders.

“They are just old people seeking attention…it doesn’t bother us. Even the opposition doesn’t want to use them because of the negative stigma associated with them,” he said.
