Umno's performance in Johor will not be affected if Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is suspended from the party, said supreme council member Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz.
He said this is because Muhyiddin, who is party deputy president and Pagoh division chief, did not represent the majority voice of Johor Umno, which is lead by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin.
"Since when did Muhyiddin represent Johor?" he told a press conference at Istana Budaya here on Thursday.
Nazri was asked to comment on the remarks made by Pagoh Umno youth chief Mohd Zaid Abdul Rahman, who asked Nazri to apologise to all Johoreans for his “disrespectful” remarks towards Muhyiddin.
"I am not concern about the remarks as Muhyiddin does not represent Johoreans," he said.
Earlier, Nazri said he would be submitting a motion to suspend Muhyiddin at the supreme council meeting on Friday for allegedly failing his duty to support the president.
Nazri also said Muhyiddin should learn from Pagoh Umno deputy division chief Ismail Mohamed, who defended him when he came under attack.
"As a deputy division chief, it is good that he came to defend his chief. It is the job of the deputy to defend his chief.
"Muhyiddin has to learn from him," said Nazri.
He had said that as an ordinary member, Muhyiddin had the right to voice his criticism against the leadership, but as deputy president, his job was to support Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
