The Cabinet has asked the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) to
postpone the increase in public transport fares, as the timing was not
suitable.
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said on Saturday that while the Cabinet understands the necessity for
an increase, the timing for the hike was not right at the moment.
"The fares should not be increased just yet especially since the
implementation of Good and Services Tax (GST) is just around the corner
and it would only add burden to the people.
"The request to postpone the fare hike was discussed during a Cabinet meeting on Friday," he added.
