UPSI lecturer is Barisan's likely candidate for Sg Limau

Umno will likely announce Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) lecturer Dr Sohaimi Lazim as the Barisan Nasional candidate for Sungai Limau by-election.

Deputy Umno president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will make the announcement in Sungai Limau, Kedah, at 5pm Monday.

Umno has decided to field a fresh face to wrest control of the state seat from PAS.
Dr Sohaimi hails from Kampung Titi Batu, Sungai Limau.

The seat fell vacant following the death of former Kedah Mentri Besar Tan Sri Azizan Abdul Razak last month.

Azizan is regarded as a legend as he had succeeded in defending the seat in five consecutive elections.
Azizan of PAS retained the seat by a 2,774-vote majority in a four-cornered fight in the 13th general election on May 5.

PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang will announce the party’s candidate on Monday night near SMK Sik.

Hadi said the PAS would only choose a fresh face.
Among those short-listed are Jerai PAS Youth chief Azam Samad, Jerai secretary Muzaini Azizan, and Sungai Limau Youth chief Mohd Muaz Othman.
Mohd Muaz is also a founder of a religious school in Bukit Besar.
