On the eve of polling day, 800 PKR and 300 PAS members in the Bandar Tun Razak constituency left the coalition to join Umno.
Umno membership forms for the group of around 1,000 were submitted by
representatives Mazlan Anuar and Mohamad Faizal Ishak, to Cheras Umno
division chief Datuk Seri Syed Ali Alhabshee dan Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary candidate for Barisan Tan Kok Eng.
Mazlan, who was a PKR member, voiced his frustrations towards the Pakatan coalition and its Bandar Tun Razak candidate Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, saying that he was tricked by the stalwarts character and was “caught up with the 2008 political tsunami”.
“However,
today I realised, after five years, he has not delivered. So why should
I support him anymore?” Mazlan told reporters Saturday.
Mohamad
Faizal who was a PAS member since 1998, claimed the Pakatan coalition
had played a role in fracturing the Muslim community.
“So it's
time we got closer to Barisan. I love my country and it is not my job to
break up the Muslims. But when I was with them (PAS), they hurled many
insults and slander,” he said.
In Bukit Gantang, Bernama reported
that 244 PAS supporters also defected from their party and vowed to
support Umno and Barisan Nasional.
Similarly, 106 supporters defected in Trong and another 138 in Kuala Sepetang.
