Azmin denies gunning for Selangor MB post, says he won't abandon PKR
PKR deputy president Azmin has denied that he is after the post of Selangor Mentri Besar.
"If
I wanted it, I would have been Selangor MB in 2008," Azmin, the Gombak
MP and Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyman, told reporters at a press
conference at the party headquarters here Friday.
He claimed that after the Permatang Pauh by-election in August 2008, PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had told him to prepare to replace Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.
"But I said 'no'," Azmin added.
He said rumours-mongers could continue dreaming that he would resign from party posts and as MP and assemblyman.
"These rumours are vicious lies that throw shadow upon my integrity. I would not put my political standing before the party."
He said the issue was not with who would be Mentri Besar, but rather, the selection process.
Azmin also implied nepotism was at work within Selangor's political ranks, saying PKR "does not belong to a family".
When asked what he meant, Azmin claimed that PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail
gave a name to the Selangor Sultan over the Mentri Besar post, but
state representatives and MPs did not know who was on the list.
"We
were informed the president sent a letter to the palace yesterday
(Thursday), but no assemblymen or MPs were informed. These issues must
be ironed out," he said, adding that a discussion between party leaders
and Selangor representatives should have been held
Azmin Ali also clarified that he had tweeted his
disapproval of the Black 505 rally on Wednesday because he felt there
were better ways to deal with electoral fraud.''Are we to rally every day, week and month?'' Azmin added.
