KUALA LUMPUR, April 16 (Bernama) -- Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim called for a parliamentary select committee be set up to review the Security Offences (Special Measures) Bill 2012 to replace the Internal Security Act (ISA) 1960 as he feels there are still injustices against human rights in the new Bill.
He said although he welcomed the government's move to repeal the ISA, he found some provisions in the Bill to be tougher than the ISA.
"These include the new condition of having to refer to the court if the police want to rearrest an individual," he told reporters at the parliament lobby, here, Monday.
The Security Offences (Special Measures) Bill 2012 to replace te ISA was tabled in the Dewan Rakyat for the second reading by Prme Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
The Bill states, among others, that no person shall be arrested and detained under this section solely for his political belief or political activity.
tunku: what else do they want? when the government wants to abolish ISA, they feel its to their disadvantage as they can't accuse the government and use that issue any longer. so they try to find ways to discredit the government's move. what else to this moron wants, government had assured that no person shall be arrested and detained under this section solely for his political belief or political activity.that should be a very good move.do these people want to safeguard the right of potential terrorist?
