KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court on Monday acquitted Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim of the charge of sodomising his former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.
Justice Mohamad Zabidin Mohd Diah said that after going through the evidence, the court could not be 100% certain the integrity of the DNA samples was not compromised.
He said as such, the court was left only with Saiful's testimony, which was uncorroborated, and was reluctant to convict based entirely on this.
Justice Mohamad Zabidin Mohd Diah - "After going through the evidence, the court could not be 100% certain that integrity of DNA samples was not compromised, and finds that it is not safe to rely on DNA evidence.
"As such, court is left only with Saiful's testimony. As this is a sexual crime, the court is reluctant to convict based entirely on Saiful's testimony, which is uncorroborated. The accused is thus acquitted and discharged."
tunku : the court could not be 100% certain on the dna samples but what about other evidences? its ok we hope saiful will file the case to the higher court. anyway today's verdict is confirmed that the court does not belongs to the ruling party.if it is belong to them then for sure anwar is behind bar right now.that shows how transparent the government is and how fair the court is. may be it is a good verdict for NOW as anwar's supporters won't have the chance to make street protest and create tense till the election. they can't accuse the government and the court now.

Yes the Government can take the moral high ground. But it is only a Pyrrhic Victory for them. Many high profile cases were taken to court and the prosecution was found wanting. The must be a prima facie case when cases are take to court. And we must learn and learn very quickly to do the right thing at the beginning instead of doing it at the end.
We are now fifty years old and it only now Sports Institute of Malaysia is being set up.We have to inspire our people and drive them to achieve greatness and goodness in the same breath. We must be perceived to be wise, just, and govern by a higher moral standard. We should not be wontly be cruel. We must not be profligate is the use of public funds. We must understand that building a nation is all about image as well as substance. We must understand that when it comes to development we must measure three or even four times but cut only once. And finally we have to understant that a nation is like a stream.Through deleberate policies we can re-shape that stream to be whatever we want it to be. I hipe that the next fifty years will be driven these fundamental approach toward good governence.
For me as a man-on-the-street the colour of the cat does not matter so long as it can catch the rats efficiently.Thank you
