Long Umno Campaign Can Impact Productivity - Muhyiddin

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 (Bernama) -- Umno vice president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the four month campaign period for the party elections is too long and can impact the productivity of candidates particularly those in government.
"I am saying this because there are many who share the same concern because there can be the issue of money politics and will drain resources like energy and funds.
"The campaign period is the longest in years and has never happened before. We will be on the campaign trail for four months compared to only one month previously.
"All this because we want to accommodate the so-called power transition plan," he said after opening the Regional Eisenhower Fellowships Conference here today.
Umno president Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi had announced that he would not be defending his post and would be handing over the the Prime Minister's post to his deputy Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in March.
Asked whether it would-be better to bring forward the Umno elections from March 2009, he said: "I think I want to leave it to the Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister. I don't want to make any suggestion because some people are saying that Muhyiddin has been talking too much.
"If you ask me, as a candidate vying for deputy president, the shorter the campaign the better. A longer period means lots of time will be spent on travelling from one state to another.
"We don't want this to impact productivity as most of the candidates are in senior positions and hold ministerial posts."
The International Trade and Industry Minister said they need to focus on the job at hand especially with the uncertainties on the global front.
Muhyiddin who is vying for the Umno deputy president's post had so far received 24 nominations.

tunku : muhyiddin is right. the longer campaign period will definitely impact the productivity.it will also encourage more money politics.instead of concentrating on national issues and economic issues, the candidates will spend their time more on campaigning.the umno general assembly should not have been postponed in the first place.what can pak lah reform in extra 3 months time?what have he been doing all these while? the extra 3 months will only help his family, not the nation.

Dia dah tak sabar sangat tu nak jawatan tinggi.

i beg to differ.within that five months, the candidates can promote themself and to campaign for themself.no need to rush because the time given is long.

but there must always be a committe or anyone to monitor all the campaign did by the candidates to ensure it runs smoothly without any hankypanky.

perhaps Muhyiddin is just to eager to own his new seat as the Deputy President.

last sekali kemenangan berpihak kpd yg mempunyai byk wang.
