Easier To Destroy Than Build, Says Zam
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- Threats to the country's political stability, peace and harmony must be nipped in the bud as it is always easier to destroy than to build, Information Minister Datuk Seri Zainuddin Maidin said today.
For this reason, he said, the government had repeatedly told the opposition that street demonstrations were not the nation's culture.
"It is not our way of solving problems as street demonstrations are counter-productive, causing panic and fear among the people, while disrupting businesses and the livelihood of the man-in-the-street.
"Past experiences have shown that street demonstrations have a tendency to get out of hand and spark off riots, such as the May 13 incident," he said.
Zainuddin said this at a forum on "Political Stability And Good Governance: Prerequisites To Nation Building" here. His speech was read out by the ministry's parliamentary secretary, Noriah Kasnon.
On disruption to Malaysia's political stability, peace and harmony, he said it could come in different forms and from anywhere.
He noted that in a country where the rule of law prevailed, critics or rumour-mongers who could not back their claims with enough evidence for conviction in court were only doing a disservice to the nation and people.
"The public should (therefore) not wallow in gossip and insinuations which are sinful in any religion, but should assist by leading us to the evidence so that we can charge the wrong-doer in court," he said.
tunku : though zam is a lousy minister, but this advice of his is a good one.we shall not destroy the stability, peace and harmony in malaysia. we should not let outsiders manipulate us.they are using tools like hindraf and anwar ibrahim to creates tense in this country.we should not fall into their traps.
