He said that judging from a police report lodged by NOW director Akmal Nasir, which called on police to investigate an alleged abuse of charity funds by Malaysian Islamic Economic Development Foundation (YaPEIM), the association was only interested in embarrassing Jamil Khir.
"The report lodged by Akmal Nasir was made up of seven questions. If still in doubt, why embarrass an Islamic affairs minister like that?
"Why didn't he question YaPEIM before bringing the matter to the press?" said the Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister, in a series of tweets, on Monday.
Last Friday, NOW had claimed that Jamil Khir had used funds from the state-linked charity body to go shopping and play golf with his wife in US in May last year.
The minister has since denied the allegation, stressing that the trip was organised by YaPEIM with the help with the Malaysian Embassy in the US and Education Malaysia in Chicago for the launch of the Midwest Games there.
On Sunday, Jamil Khir said he was prepared to go to court to clear his name, and had instructed his lawyer to initiate legal action against Akmal.
Akmal also lodged a police report on the same day, urging the police to investigate the alleged abuse of funds by the minister.
