Najib: 1MDB top execs will attend PAC inquiry

The top management of 1MDB will not run away from attending the Public Accounts Committee’s inquiry into its affairs.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said both the current 1MDB president Arul Kanda Kandasamy  former chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Shahrol Halmi had given him their guarantee that they would attend.

“They will attend. They will not run away.

“They just have to sort out some matters first,” he told reporters here after a dialogue with Tohoku University students here on Tuesday.

Shahrol was the first CEO of 1MDB until he suddenly left the strategic fund for the Performance Delivery Unit (Pemandu). He was the CEO from February 2009 to March 2013. Arul took over from CEO Mohd Hazem Abdul Rahman in January.

The Star had reported that Arul would be away on official business and unable to attend the PAC session. Shahrol is believed to seek a month extension to prepare for the hearing before the PAC.
