Umno leaders past and present not satisfied with Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's leadership can challenge him in the next general election, said Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz.
The Tourism and Culture Minister said if Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad - who has been calling for Najib's resignation as Prime Minister - still thought he had strong support, he should challenge Najib in the next general election.
He also said Najib could not bow to Mahathir's demands as the former prime minister only represented a single vote.
Nazri said that Najib was democratically elected by the people, and they could display any possible dissatisfaction by way of voting in the next general election.
"Replacing the Prime Minister must be done through the democratic process.
"Party members may challenge Najib during party polls, not oust him. Voters may also decide whether to vote for Najib in the general election," he said.
"Let's wait until the 2018 general election and the party election next year, do it through the democratic process if you wish to challenge Najib," he added.
