Contractors Suffer From New Requirement Imposed By Selangor Government

PETALING JAYA, Sept 21 (Bernama) -- The Selangor MCA on Tuesday questioned the Selangor government's move requiring contractors and suppliers to register and get support from the State Economic Planning Unit (UPEN) in order to obtain projects.
State MCA Public Complaints Bureau deputy chairman Kelvin Chong Seng Foo said after the requirement was imposed, they received many complaints from contractors and suppliers on the difficulty of obtaining projects from the state government.
"It is not easy to get approval from UPEN. This will not only burden contractors and make it hard for Class F Bumiputera contractors to get projects, but also their non-Bumiputera counterparts," he said during a news conference at his office, here Tuesday.
He was commenting on a statement made by Kampung Tunku assemblyman, Lau Weng San, last week claiming that the state government ruled by the Parti Keadilan Rakyat-DAP and PAS coalition could not manage project approvals because contractor licences and projects were controlled by the central government.
Chong said the state government should clarify the need to register under UPEN, which he alleged was just to ensure contractors and suppliers supported the ruling party before being given a project.
At the same news conference, Selangor MCA Public Complaints Bureau chairman Datuk Theng Book said, until today, they received 71 complaints from the public about a company taking illegal cash deposits.
He said the company, which operated for the past three months, had caused the 71 victims to lose almost RM1.75 million.
Even worse, Book said the company could not be detected for action to be taken as they stopped operations after making enough profit.
"We will cooperate with the police and other parties to carry out a month-long campaign in October to create awareness among the public about illegal deposits," he added.

tunku : the move is to ensure that all the contracts are given to their cronies only.that's why they have to register with upen.not only register the applicants need supporting letters too. approval will be given only those who supports pakatan state government.this is what they call transparent.this is just the lower class, for class c,b and a they must give "donations" to the pakatan in order to get any job given by the state.even for private development on government's land, they need to give some kickbacks to them.transparent my foot.
