KUALA LUMPUR, June 22 (Bernama) -- PAS' decision to reject the unity government talks proposed by president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang is proof of its insincerity.
Leaders of Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) said today the decision made by PAS was expected.
Umno information chief Ahmad Maslan said PAS could start unity talks with Umno and BN as it has 23 seats in parliament and ruled Kedah and Kelantan.
"I had expected DAP and PKR to reject the PAS proposal on the unity government talks," he said in a statement here Monday.
PAS, DAP and PKR today rejected the proposed unity government talks mooted by Abdul Hadi.
Ahmad said unity would not only benefit the Malays and Bumiputeras but also Malaysians in general.
"I hope that unity talks between PAS, Umno and BN can start as it will benefit the people," said the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department.
Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat was more keen on talks with DAP than Umno.
"What is wrong in talking about it? PAS should be sincere by rejecting the proposal outright," said the Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Minister.
Gerakan president Tan Sri Koh Tsu Koon described the PAS decision as "wayang kulit" (shadow play).
"It is expected as the Opposition are at odds with each other. BN will not stand in the way of unity for the people's sake," said the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department.
Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Dr Awang Adek Hussin said he was disappointed with the PAS decision.
"It is disappointing for the Malays. We can't even talk what more form a government," said the Deputy Finance Minister.
However, Umno Youth deputy chief Datuk Razali Ibrahim said he was not disappointed with the PAS decision,"It is up to them as they were the ones who proposed the unity talks. We are only concerned for the future of the country," said the Deputy Youth and Sports Minister.
Pasir Mas member of parliament Datuk Ibrahim Ali said PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had influenced the PAS decision.
"PAS' support for the proposal will deprive Anwar of the chance to become Prime Minister. He is only using PAS as a tool. I am not shocked by the decision," he said.
tunku : the whole thing was mooted and proposed by hadi awang and now he says NO. can we call him a munafik? pas had shown their true colours.they are not interested in unity, they are only there for themselves. umno and bn should move forward without these type of munafiks. they can bring harm to umno and bn, better to stay away from them.today it has proven that pas is under the full control of pkr and dap.they have no say and no power in pakatan.now we understand, the malays disunity created by pas.

I just pity DSAHA cos other pasties leader are more powerful than him.
He should start to say NO to DSAI and LKS.
He should continue to say YES on matters that would benefit the country especially on Malays and Islamic matters.

As far as I'm concerned, PAS is not an Islamic party. It is a political party like all the rest. The name "Islam" should be dropped not only from "Sisters In Islam" but PAS as well. Many times the PAS leaders have behaved and issued statements contrary to the teachings of Islam.
Latest, Nik Aziz has equated UMNO to Ayah Pin and the communists. I've said it before and I'm saying it again, Nik Aziz is no Tok Guru to me.
I had hopes for Hadi Awang. However, with the latest development, he too had ended up as a huge disappointment to me.

It is a sad thing that PAS decided to abandon the unity talks with UMNO. In my opinion, Hadi was dragged to the press conference by PKR and DAP and strongly push to sign the joint press statement. Deep in Hadi's heart he wants the unity talks to pursue as he is not too happy with the idea of Anwar Ibrahim becoming Prime Minister one day. People on the ground knows that Hadi does that like Anwar and prefers himself to be Prime Minister and not Anwar. With Hadi signing the joint press statement of Pakatan Rakyat rejecting the unity talks, Hadi has created a strong and heavy dent in the malay unity talks between PAS and UMNO. Perhaps if Anwar Ibrahim leaves the country on fears of political imprisonment, Hadi would make another go at the unity talks ??
THE ABOVE ARE MY PERSONAL INDIVIDUAL VIEWS AND OPINIONS
Unity idea is no more than just our quick way of solving our current problem without really solving the real problem.
Our real problem is how to win back the voters especially chinese and indian voters. MCA, MIC, PPP and Gerakan should be fully responsible in winning back these voters.
What have been done by these parties to win back the voter. It seems that the voters rejecting their leaders and nothing being done by MIC & MCA or PPP or Gerakan to win back the voters.
It is about time for us to independently conduct a survey at ground level to really understand the voters sentiment and volunteerly accepting the survey outcome. Improve from there. We have 3 years to do it before we are facing our voters again in PRU13.
So far instead of focusing on solving the problem with our voters we are spending more time with our newly invented short cut solutions and ideas.
Our leaders should sit down and really think to win back the voters.
