Sultan of Johor rejects third bridge proposal

The Sultan of Johor, in his state assembly opening speech, has rejected the proposed third bridge linking Malaysia and Singapore.
The message was delivered by the Regent of Johor Tengku Ibrahim Ismail during his royal address to officiate the state assembly sitting this morning.
"I was told by the sultan to convey his disagreement to the proposal," he was quoted as saying in a news report.
The third-bridge was mooted by Najib who claimed that Singapore was equally receptive to the idea.

tunku : i strongly agrees with sultan of Johor. we don't need the third bridge. we need a bridge to replace the causeway not an additional bridge. the problem is with the causeway.it should be demolished.singapore does not want that and they had proposed for the third bridge. the crooked bridge is still the best solution. the Sultan too want the crooked bridge to be built. if singapore want a straight bridge, then demolish the causeway and build a straight bridge there. it is waste of money to build a third bridge which is located very far away from JB town.

tunku,
I fully agreed with the Sultan. Najib proposal is not representing the view of johorean or it is his own idea. LKY is more interested with sand to extend Singapore much needed land. The land reclamination will later reach to Pulau Batu Putih. The government should continue to carry out the jambatan bengkok as this will enhance the water flow at the selat tebrau. Having said that, the johor side can be made bigger and deeper to allow medium or smaller vessel to pass through the selat tebrau from east to the west. The goverment is currently undertaking a highway construction that links Senai/JB/ Pasir Gudang to Desaru. This will be enough to cater the development in that area. Therefore the 3rd brige mooted by Najib is not viable.

Najib's in trouble...Johor Sultan have spoken! Why on earth did he take the same path as Badawi with regards to S'pore! He took the trouble visiting Puduraya, Bricksfield and Petaling Street (wonder if he noticed the pirated goods on sale there)in his first tour, but did not take the opportunity to drive to S'pore via the causeway at peak hours. And experience for himself the inconveniences encountered by motorist. Instead he used the Second Link free from congestion in his recent visit to the island state. The third linkage is actually a well kept desire of S'pore. They asked their boys in Putrajaya to put it in Najib's mouth. And Malaysians especially Johoreans were stumped including the Sultan but Najib's 'die hards' thought it was a brilliant idea of our new minted PM just as his idea on 1Malaysia which is yet to be thoroughly explained.

Sangat-sangat setuju dengan Sultan Johor. Rata-rata orang Johor mahukan projek jambatan bengkok diteruskan. Tak tau dimana silapnya PM dapat idea nak buat jambatan ke3 pulak. Idea yang tak masuk dek akal plak tu...

he he seolah-olah Johor tak ada raja, langsung tidak dibawa berunding terlebih dahulu. Itulah nasib raja Melayu.
