KOTA BAHARU, June 18 (Bernama) -- Umno has no ulterior motive in reacting positively to the proposed unity government mooted by PAS, Jerlun Member of Parliament Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir said.
He said the idea of a unity government between Umno and PAS, if realised, would be able to unite the Malays, who were now split.
"We have no other intentions. What we do is solely to achieve the best for all. We are now facing stiff challenges as a result of the world economic recession.
"We don't have time for a lengthy political polemic, which in the end does not bring any benefit to the people, when we should be looking for economic solutions," he told reporters at the Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital's (HUSM) World Blood Donors Day celebration in Kubang Kerian here Thursday.
Mukhriz, who is Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister, said all parties should be more rational since the proposal for the unity government was still at an early stage.
"What is important is for us to be rational, don't be emotional, and be sincere about it for the sake of religion, race and the country. I hope none of us will over-react to it," he added.
tunku : we can clearly see those opposing to this idea is from the opposition.the ruling coalition is not reacting on this issue but the pakatan is over reacting and hitting at each other but then again i agree with what Dr M has to say about this issue, read here.
