Tun Dr Mahathir Says Prepared To Meet ACA If Needed

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 1 (Bernama) -- Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he is prepared to meet the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) to assist its investigations into the "Lingam video clip" if the agency requires him to do so.
He declined to comment further, saying: "If they call, I'll go."
Dr Mahathir was met by reporters after signing a book of condolence for slain former Pakistan prime minister Benazir Bhutto, at the Pakistan High Commission here today.
Dr Mahathir was asked whether the ACA would call him for further information over the video clip showing images of a person speaking on the telephone purportedly over the appointment of judges.
On Dec 22, three ACA officers interviewed Dr Mahathir at the Perdana Leadership Foundation in Putrajaya in connection with the probe into the controversial clip.
The government has set up a six-member Royal Commission of Inquiry to investigate whether there was any misconduct by anyone identified in the video clip. The commission, headed by former Chief Judge of Malaya Tan Sri Haidar Mohamed Noor, would sit for two weeks from Jan 14.
Earlier, Dr Mahathir said he was saddened by Bhutto's death and expressed hope that calm could be restored in Pakistan soon.
Also present were his wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamed Ali and acting Pakistan High Commissioner Mohammad Jamshaid Iftikhar.
Benazir, 54, a Pakistan opposition icon, died after being shot by a suicide bomber as she was leaving a rally in Rawalpindi. The assassin later blew himself up, killing at least 20 other people.
