BN Must Work Extra Hard To Emerge Stronger Says Tun Abdullah

PUTRAJAYA, March 3 (Bernama) -- Barisan Nasional (BN) cannot expect the party to become automatically stronger just because cracks have appeared in the opposition, especially Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), when members quit the party said former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
Abdullah said BN, including Umno, must instead work hard to ensure the party becomes stronger and able to bring about development to serve the people better.
"BN must not regard what is currently happening in the opposition parties can automatically make BN stronger. If we considered the party can become stronger when the opposition is facing problems, that hope will soon diminish.
"What is important is to work hard and fulfill the expectations of the people, including reformation in the party as promised," he told reporters after opening a restaurant here Wednesday.
PKR lost another Member of Parliament (MP) today when Bagan Serai MP, Mohsin Fadzli Samsuri, announced he had quit the party with immediate effect to become an independent MP, the fourth opposition representative to quit within a month.
His resignation comes on the heels of Bayan Baru MP Datuk Seri Zahrain Mohamed Hashim, former Penang Deputy Chief Minister I Mohammad Fairus Khairuddin and Nibong Tebal MP Tan Tee Beng who left PKR recently.
Abdullah did not discard the possibility of BN regaining a two-third majority in Parliament due to the recent trend of PKR MPs quitting the party, since the party was in 'bad shape' due to the exodus.
"Previously, they (opposition) had been crooning that BN will fall and the opposition will come into power on Sept 16 but it looks like it is PKR who are falling apart.. This is the current situation," he said.
Abdullah said whatever changes that takes place in the political scene, the most important aspect was to maintain internal security of the country and develop the economy.
"In democracy, there will be all kinds of events related to political parties but the economy of the country must not suffer.
"Even now, despite the current situation, the economic situation of the country has improved. If the situation continues, the people will be able to enjoy better living standards.
"But if the political 'game' goes overboard and affect the economy of the country, the people will certainly not benefit and soon regret," he said.

tunku : thanks to you pak lah, you have made life difficult for bn. you have made the opposition became stronger during your tenure as pm and made it difficult for everyone else to clear all the dirt you left behind.thanks to Najib who's doing good job right now.the only dirt remain to be cleaned is your son in-law who is still a liablity for Umno.

Spoke to some business people in construction support line. They say, Tun M's time, business booms, Pak Lah's time, business dropped but maintaining. Najib's time, swatting flies most of the time. Mid-East investors have largely left.

Don't know how much is true. But maybe Pak Lah was riding on Tun M's downward momentum but Najib is now having to ride double rate to counter the uphill climb! Not easy task actually with all the UMNO taikos each have their own agenda.

Anon 1106, if you speak to business people, apple is bad coz they are in the orange business.

Tobacco importers will also tell you there is no concrete evidence that nicotine causes cancer.

Coffee companies will say too much green tea is bad for your digestive system.

They also say the mutimedia supercorridor will fail, the F1 Sepang will not take off, the KLIA will be the usual Mana Ada System, the Proton initiative is not based on reality, that the Twin Towers are mega waste of money

and so on and on and on ...

get my gist

PROTON'S PROGRESS
=================
By Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamed

12. Most people started to own cars only after Proton cars were produced. Such was the increase in the usage of cars that in on 10-year period, Proton cars contributed 18 billion Ringgit towards government revenue. Considering that the total government investment was only 480 million ringgit in 1984 - 85, the returns on the investment must be considered very high. The people on a whole must benefit from government expenditure of this large sum of money.

13. Besides, Proton support about 300,000 workers, vendors and their families. It produces almost 200,000 cars yearly. If we support foreign cars at RM 25,000 per car, the outflow of money would add up to approximately 5 billion Ringgit. Even after deducting some component imports, the amount saved in foreign exchange is huge.

14. At one stage there were rumours of an attempt to practically bankrupt Proton so as to sell it of cheaply. This was what happen to Agusta. Proton has assets which the buyers can develop profitably. But I am glad that these are just rumours and no one talks about it anymore. If a person look at the whole picture, he will appreciate that Proton is too valuable an asset to sell for RM4.

Can anyone tell me the rationale of selling Agusta for RM4 and said that the deal was in the interest of the company?

I would also like to know who was the "genius" behind the deal?

Dear YAA Tun,
I would like to know who was behind the AP deal for cars below 2000 CC- the range of cars produced by Proton. You my wish to recall that the Korean car industry was built on the back of domestic cosumption.Despite the criticism by their main supporters th US and Japan they maintained that position of making it difficult to own a foreign car and keep them out of the domestic market. But we did the opposite. We allowed APs for cars beloww 2000 CC . And that to my simple mind is one of the major causes for the position that PROTON finds itself today. Ramalx
