Approval Of Using Term 'Allah' Must Be Strictly Governed - Dr Mahathir

KUALA TERENGGANU, Jan 2 (Bernama) -- The High Court's decision allowing a Catholic weekly publication to use the term "Allah" must be governed by strict conditions, said former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
He said whatever justifications offered for the approval, it would not diffuse the anger of Muslims in the country.
"This is because 'God' in other religions is translated as "Tuhan" in Bahasa Melayu or Arabic, not 'Allah'. Allah' specifically referred to God in Islam. If they understand that, they would use the word 'Tuhan', not 'Allah'.
"I accept the term 'Allah' had been used in Sabah and Sarawak before the two states joined Malaysia, but it is difficult to stop them from doing so now... but in the peninsular, we have not heard of such practice," he told reporters after presenting a keynote address at the Malay Undergraduates Convention at Universiti Malaysia Terengganu here on Saturday.
On Friday, the High Court ruled that the Catholic weekly, The Herald, can use the term 'Allah' in its articles to propagate Christianity among its followers.
Judge Datuk Lau Bee Lian had ruled that usage of the term was constitutional as long as the periodical was confined to educate the followers of the Christian faith.
Dr Mahathir said, "What I am afraid of is that the term 'Allah' might be used in such a way that could inflame the anger of Muslims, if they were to use it on banners or write something that might not reflect Islam."
Meanwhile, Dr Mahathir extended his condolence to the family of former information minister Tan Sri Mohamed Rahmat, who passed away yesterday.
"During his tenure as a minister, Allahyarham had carried out his work diligently and I appreciated his work.
"I am indebted to him as a minister in my cabinet before he was appointed Malaysian ambassador to Indonesia with ministerial status."

tunku : Allah is Muslim's God. In our prayers we mention ALLAH. we hope the government and the Rulers will take fast action on this matter.i don't understand why they insist want to use the word ALLAH when the translation of God in Bahasa Melayu is Tuhan not ALLAH.non Muslims don't mention ALLAH in their prayers so why we must tolerate this in the name of democracy or freedom. there is a limit to it.do not anger the Muslims.we have been tolerant enough.there is freedom of other religions in Malaysia.they can build anything, no matter how big(temples and churches) in Malaysia.we don't stop them like what the swiss government does, they do not allows the Muslims there to have minarets. please stop this at once.

When Khalid Samad wrote

"... seperti “Wa Kaalatil Yahudu Uzair ibnu Llah” yang bermaksud “Dan berkata orang-orang Yahudi Uzair adalah anak Allah”? " in his blog and infered that, quote "bahawa orang bukan Islam, ...... menggunakan perkataan ‘Allah’, unquote, in the Qur-an, he has blasphemed.

NO ONE beside Allah s.w.t. say or utter the "allah" in the Qur-an.

All words in the Qur-an are Allah's word. It's Allah who say "Allah" in the Qur-an.

None of Khalid Samad's Christian or Jewish frinds has left any word in the Qur-an.

Khalid Samad has said something of Allah that he has no knowledge of.

About this, Allah has turned against Khalid Samad and his kind, 1400 years ago saying (9:30) ".... That is a saying from their mouth; (in this) they but imitate what the unbelievers of old used to say. Allah's curse be on them: how they are deluded away from the Truth!"

Apabila Khalid Samad menulis
