Sports May Be Compulsory In Schools - Muhyiddin

MUAR, Dec 7 (Bernama) -- The curriculum may be revised to make sports compulsory to relive the glory days of sports in schools, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
He said the education policy would be revised to give importance to sports as the Education Ministry wanted to produce students, who excel not only in academics but also co-curriculum.
"There are many co-curriculum activities. We have sports, clubs, associations and uniform units. I want to change the policy. Sports will be compulsory in schools," he said at the Sekolah Menengah Tinggi Muar alumni dinner here Sunday night.
Muhyiddin, who is also Education Minister, said the ministry would introduce incentives to make this happen.
He also shared fond memories of his school days including taking part in a play titled "Uda dan Dara".
Muhyiddin later launched the school's heritage museum and approved a RM200,000 allocation for the setting up of the school's brass band.
Present was Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman, who was Muhyiddin's classmate in Form Six in 1965 and 1966.

tunku : it is a very good idea and must be implemented soon as sports is a healthy activity for everyone and good for the country but before making it compulsory the ministry must make sure that the facilities must be there for each and every school to train it's students.sport facilities are still lacking in most of the schools.not every school has the same facilities.i hope muhyiddin will make these facilities available to every school in the country.at least each and every district in the country has the facilities.

Well, I can imagine Tan Sri in the role of UDA...

On more Lighter notes, the Ministry should also include indoor sports such as badminton, volleyball, basketball etc acilities are glaringly inadequate.

When we were in school, sports and extra-curricular activities were not compulsory and we all put all our heart, mind and soul into what we did and we did well. When you force it on people, it is only their bodies are there.

Sports must be there for a cause. Refer to American NBA, NFL, NHL or Colege football or Basketball.

It is not only start somewhere BUT also must end somewhere.

The minister could come up with 1001 programs but also must conclude the program of where it should end. That would become a good incentive for student to further advancing their career and become professional in any sport of their choice.

Lately so many of our ministers coming up with many ideas but NEVER as well thought and planned as TUN did during his time.

It is about time for our ministers to stop talking just to fill the blank. Coming PRU 13 nothing done and no achievement to be proud of. It is no more than just an act to fill the blank. Nothing more and nothing less.
